A friend recommended the series after reading the first book, guess ill give it a go

Not fantasy but The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series is pretty good if you like calculated mystery solving types

Reading that Reddit post, no wonder GRRM takes so long to write the books, there are hundreds of loose ends to get in order. I just hope they all don't end up in a church in the final chapter and have been dead the whole time.
