Metalworking Thread (aka Haus indulging his inner mountain dwarf)

Came out really well for a first draft! Where did you get the flask/mold frame that you're using? I've done some stuff with the petrabond, but I made a not very good wooden frame that probably ain't gonna hold up to much repeated work.

My only suggestions on tools is to buy them as you need them and not before. If you end up really getting into it, then you can't beat a real shop table saw.

What are you planning to cast it in? Copper?

If that HT-PLA is genuinely that resistant to heat while being as easy/friendly to print as PLA, that's going to be the go to filament for almost everything. Is it not out yet or are they already sold out? None of the colors available on their site as of now.

Wonder what this will take to run locally.

This is awesome. Can't wait to see the finished product. I did some pretty basic metal casting not too long ago. I 3D printed some numbers, then took a bunch of copper pipes that my sister had ripped out of her new house when they remodeled it. I cast her house numbers in copper and then put...

Gotta love companies that still actually give a shit about their customers.

Yeah, I've completely disassembled my AMS like 5 times now because of little filament bit getting stuck in one of the bowden tubes. Really wish they made those paths easily accessible.

Honestly, I think starting out with an Ender or anything similar(Creality CR10 was my first printer) makes you appreciate just how good the Bambu systems are. If the Bambu was someone's first printer, they are pretty misleading in how most Chinese printers are. I think I spent more time leveling...

If this is the same guy I'm thinking of, he has a hilarious video of him laying out his concrete foundation in his basement on his own. Almost ends up killing himself. I like that dude.

Yeah, their prices are nuts, but I've never heard a bad thing about them other than their price.

Here's something I built this week, which I think falls into the "useful" category. Built a new NAS for my network and 3D printed the case for it. This model is designed really well. Went together perfectly and has a lot of modularity/customizing you can do. I did this in ABS...

As someone who has a tabletop one, avoid it. I have a "decent" midrange 10" spiral Wahuda(pic below) and it's taken a massive amount of work to get it really dialed in and squared up perfectly, and even then the length just sucks for any real kind of large size pieces. It has extensions, but...
