anyone catch the new season of BBC Top Gear with Chris Evans and LeBlanc? Pretty meh, Evans looks like a ginger pedophile who has no idea whats inside a car and fawned over Matt way too much. Cringe-y segments with almost zero car minutiae and zero chemistry between the two hosts in all the segments. Matt does drive well though in the desert segment, probably the only interesting bit of the episode.
Hope they can make the show work but the premiere was a giant turd

I kept thinking at every point "Why aren't there 3 presenters like before? This would be better at all points with the German racing driver also here". Just have her be super competent while LeBlanc and Evans try to screw each over for 2nd place, imagine her racing the German version of the WW2 jeep, that's be fucking awesome and so unPC even Clarkson would think twice.
It was... ok... Evans was fine and LeBlanc was too subdued. They can build on this but they really need a 3rd person to play off.
I live not too far from Blackpool, it's embarrassing how shit it is. It's our version of Vegas complete with fake Eiffel Tower (build 100 years ago through, so Vegas is probably your version of Blackpool haha).

Very crappy 1st episode. there is no substance between LeBlanc and Evans as of yet and I do not see it really ever occurring. Seeing this turd-sandwich this is making me more excited for the 'The Grand Tour' as all the prior hosts build off one another.

It really was clunky and unentertaining. Especially the studio part with Evans hosting.
It's...not the worst thing on TV. But it relies a lot on the hosts having some chemistry, which they do a bit, and on them having some acting ability because everything is sooooo staged. I can't see Evans and Schmidt pulling that off.
The best part was LeBlanc playing to the camera a little bit. Like when Evans slipped in the mud. But that's such a small thing.
You basically described American TG. Which is all "challenges". Every single time actual driving skill is involved Tanner Foust wins easily. Unless they hamfistedly handicap him somehow or his car breaks.

Yeah I just watched the episode . . . it just felt they got the host mixture & equation wrong. Perhaps they felt that they needed to break from the 3 host format. But then it felt 'understaffed' especially during the location segments.
Plus the two personalities were too different. LeBlanc was doing a subdued character ( and he seemed to be in character - not just being natural ) whereas Evans was more of a chirpy guy and perhaps was trying harder than he needed too.
A few of the segments felt gimmicky, Viper and Corvette with laser guns ( barely modified Browning 50 Cal machineguns ) plus plastic rockets, chasing each other. Plus the 'out-run the papparazzi' with scripted / setup gags.
I know the old show would do that too, I think I would let it slide, as they did enough genuine stuff to allow the occasional half baked ideas.
Oh I did like that the celebs are now driving more of a race-car on a rally-cross lap.
I still will give this new show a few more watchings . . . just to see.
