Will the show end before the next book comes out? There are only two seasons left of the show(confirmed) and there's a good chance the next book isn't released till the show is over with.

If Winds of Winter ever comes out, I'll definitely read it. i don't expect to ever see the seventh installment in print though.

Did you phrase it this way because they'll have stopped printing physical books by the time fatty releases it or because you think fatty will die before he releases it?

There have been 1240 work days since the last book in ASOIAF has been released.

This value assumes GRRM takes off all major holidays (NYE/NYD, Xmas Eve/day, Boxing Day, thanksgiving, his own birthday) and takes two weeks vacation per year.

The average length of an entry in the series is 354,000 words.

This means that GRRM could have written a single page (285 words) per day between ADWD release and today's date and have completed the book. If he only worked for 4 hours per day (20hours/wk), that is 72 words per hour, or 1.2 words per minute.

There are no excuses left for him, or Rothfuss for that matter.

He's either simply not sitting down to write, he's paralyzed with anxiety, or he just doesn't give a fuck anymore.

He has only released 2 books (1,800 pages) in the series since Bill Clinton was in office. I think 1 page per working day is overly optimistic.

The topic arose while discussing various books with friends last month, and I could make the joke "Well, Amazon just told me they're shipping the last Martin" "WHAT? IT'S OUT?!?" "Yes, he's got a book" (ok, that's mostly Snodgrass, he probably just did a few comments)

The way he writes forces him to do several rewrites of "finalized" chapters. I'm not saying that I'm thrilled with the long wait, but I can't cite a single series that I've enjoyed more than A Song of Ice and Fire... so I'll suffer the rewrites and delays they cause. At this point, it's not very realistic to expect him to finish the series, but I remain hopeful that the final chapters will be the easiest as he's had them planned for years.

I'm sure everyone knows the story of how he wanted to do a long gap between A Storm of Swords and A Feast for Crows. He probably knew that it would be tedious to write and a bitch to explain everything.

I hope he finishes too, but at this point he will 80 before he finishes the last book.

For someone who (this time last year) thought it was a real possibility that they would have their next book on it's way to the publisher no later than February 2016, we sure haven't heard much.

He probably hasn't written a fucking page since the day he realized he wasn't going to beat season 6.

I used to read this thread and the /r/asoiaf subreddit every day talking about theories and looking for updates then one day I just stopped and it hit me. "This series will never finish"

Luckily HBO will salvage what they can and finish the show and I'm sure in 5-10 years we will be able to buy his notes when that fat fuck dies and his wife sells all his shit.

it will finish. in tv format.

my bet is the dude has no concrete, detailed ending for the series and just a basic outline (which he gave to the show writers). he might be waiting to see what they do with it and then base his ending off that or he may just never finish the thing.

gonna get the show at least, which is all i care about at this point.

Will be time to call in Brandon Sanderson to finish it!
