I just got the security clearance forms..

Mother of God

I just had to do the EQUIP for my periodic re-investigation. My first SF86 was still the old word document so it did not auto populate my previous information. Luckily I kept a copy, but damn if it didn't still take me 3 hours to fill out.

Starting to get the idea. I can't get over how many old people work here.
I don't mean to be negative, but that was one of the reasons I left IBM. Lots of old people, which by itself is not a bad thing. Experienced people is usually a good thing. But it's indicative of a work force that's not seeing a lot of new blood. What happens when those people start retiring?

IBM was already facing that problem(at least in my division, microelectronics), laying off people and never hiring so a lot of the departments had a very high average age.

So, I just got a call from my old boss. Neither of us really loved the other one but he offered me a promotion at my old job and basically said I would eventually take over his position as IT manager. For some history, I left because while everyone was awesome there, the boss and I didn't get along and they were pulling some Powah-style lowballing bullshit on my salary but they did give me entry into the field and it's like 5 minutes from my house.

My current gig is at a massive law firm and my day to day job duties are trivial due to shit like noodle is dealing with. Paperwork and teams of 50 to get through to get a keyboard installed. The plus side is it pays really well and I was told I'd be getting my boss's job here in the winter when he moves on, which is even more money. The downside is, the job is boring as fuck and I'm dealing with corporate middle managers all day and I drive an hour each way to work, at least.

I have a few days to decide and I'm not sure what way to lean here.

Been here for a few days now, couple thoughts.

The training I'm in is constantly telling me they're logging keystrokes.. Whether they are or not I don't know, but I don't even want to risk it. I assume it's one of those things where if you get caught they look into it. But either way basically scared me from trying to go to any websites besides work even though they said minimal internet usage is fine. They've repeated how much they monitor us so many times that I don't even want to try.

It feels like the Emc of defense contracting in terms of size, management levels, and red tape. Everything is slow.. I asked for access to the network share a couple days ago and still waiting.

Everything you do has a form associated with it. Feels very old fashioned.

Im enjoying it and the toys im working on are impressive and cool to say the least.

I have profit sharing but it's never been explained so I have no idea how that even works.

Welcome to Raytheon.

I could detail why I didn't fit in there but you'd just poke holes at what I said. In any case I don't trust anyone that works or lives in Cambridge. Literally shit town, MA

I am not shocked you failed to fit in at your last company now.
If the job is good, pays well, and has normal levels of "job stress", then "fitting in" falls down the list of shit you worry about. I certainly don't "fit in" around here but I like the other things about my job so I don't worry about it.

I'm hitting the road on the 24th to drive from WA state to NC with 2 cats. My wife is flying over later with the kids after the home sale gets wrapped up. Should be great fun and I get to stop in such luxurious locations as Butte, MT and Richmond, IN. Looking forward to starting my new job though even though I'm sure I'll be sitting around for 2 weeks as well probably driving all over Bragg trying to get ID cards and shit.

Just embrace it, it is easier that way.

According to the guy in the "Whats going on at Blizzard" thread us mid-level engineers clear 500k here easy so pretty soon I'm going to be in the Lendarios 7 figure club

I moved from Texas-->NY about four years ago. Cross country moves are the worst, especially with a family. Best of luck.
