About to pop in the original Westworld in the lead up to this. One of my favorite old sci fi movies none of my friends have ever seen it.

I'm a big Michael Crichton fan so I hope this is good.

The Original
Season: 1
Episode: 1
Air Date: 2016-10-02

As another day of fantasy plays out in Westworld – a vast, remote park where guests pay top dollar to share wild-west adventures with android “hosts” – top programmer Bernard Lowe alerts park founder Dr. Robert Ford about incidents of aberrant behavior cropping up in some recently re-coded hosts. Meanwhile, in the Westworld town of Sweetwater, a rancher’s daughter named Dolores encounters a gunslinger named Teddy in the street – but their predictable narrative is upended by the appearance of a ruthless Man in Black and, later, by a supporting host’s unscripted encounter with an artifact of the outside world.

Testing out how this looks.

Fucking loved it. I can't wait to watch the next episode.

Really liked the very early "twist".
That Teddy Flood was an android and not a newcomer, made it worse when Delores was dragged off after you thought Teddy was going to save her.

Really liked it, and really strong start. Love how they leave a lot unexplained and not clear. Gonna go ahead and speculate all ready that at least one or all of the employees are also robots.

thought it was a good start, i'll keep watching. one thing i thought was confusing was if the park is a physical location or it's some sort of matrix like dream world. i guess it would have to be the latter since guests can't get shot but then there's scenes with the staff physically moving around the park.

I agree, I believe some if not all are androids and he's experimenting with the aspect of them having autonomy and "self." Anthony Hopkin's character is deadset on creating a "perfect world" and possibly a way of immortality via androids. I have a feeling the Dolores is a replica of his real daughter (that may have died) or his past love, and the Teddy is a younger version of him.

Think there's more to the Ed Harris/Delores "rape" scene than sex.

Great start

This and Stranger Things are at the top of my list. If ST is as good as I've been told, then I'm waiting for a proper weekend to sit and relax cos I know I'm going to binge.

I'll watch Westworld on demand when I renew HBO for Thrones/Veep/Silicon Valley and avoid this thread from here on out like the plague.

My guess is Ed Harris has something to do with the malfunction 30 years prior. A robot probably killed his son or daughter and he's going to fuck all these robots up until he dies.

Call me crazy, but I don't think Anthony Hopkins made a mistake with the software update.

Enjoyed the premiere. Thought the "Old West" versions of modern songs were done pretty well. Casting, acting and writing all seem damn good too. Only complaint is that I can't binge it.

Got a kick out of the show writers making the Westworld script guy an idiot. First thing I thought when he laid out his genius plan was "all it will take is one invincible guest to ruin your plan, fuckhead." When it actually happened I laughed my ass off.

As for all the speculation in this thread, if they go that route, might as well change the name to "Trope-World". Those are the very definition of predictable plotlines, as in boring as fuck.

This show and American Gods are what I am really looking forward to coming up. That being said I think that Ian McShane is a little similar to Anthony Hopkins in that regard. All of his characters you can see a slight touch of psychosis.

I feel that Ian is the more vulgar and unrefined Anthony. Like they were twins separated at birth, one to a rich family and one to a family that had nothing.

Now THAT could be a good movie or show with them being the actors.
