(Since Millie said comic book discussions should go in the book house, here goes)

SPOILER WARNING (YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS BY THE TITLE OF THE THREAD...)

What are your most memorable comic book moments, and why?

1- In the first pic, it features Bane breaking Batman"s back.DC claims that Bane is the only person to have beaten Batman in hand-to-hand combat. What happened next is that Batman goes off into retirement and is replaced by a younger, more violent version (Azrael).

2- The Death of Superman: "Nuff said.

3- The first appearance of Wolverine.I am actually old enough to have read the first print and still have it. It used to be worth decent $$$. In the main Marvel universe, they"ve fought many times, and in some depictions, Wolverine has won. His adamantium claws were able to cut through the Hulk"s skin.

4- The death of the Flash.Barry Allen was my favorite Flash. He died in Infinite Crisis trying to save the Earth from getting blowed up from a mega-bomb.

5- The death of the 2nd Robin (Jason Todd):

"A Death in the Family"
In 1988, Dennis O"Neil suggested that an audience might be attracted to the comics by being afforded the opportunity to influence the creative process.[4] Settling on the idea of telephone poll via a 1-900 number, O"Neil had decided due to discussions with DC Comics president Jenette Kahn that the poll should not be wasted on something insignificant. O"Neil settled on using the poll to determine the fate of Jason Todd. O"Neil said, "The logical candidate was Jason because we had reason to believe that he wasn"t that popular anyway. It was a big enough stunt that we couldn"t do it with a minor character."[5] Even though Jason Todd was unpopular with readers, O"Neil could not decide what to do with the character, so he opted to present the choice to the readership.[4]

The vote was set up in the four-part story "A Death in the Family" that was published in Batman #426-429 in 1988. At the end of Batman #427, Jason Todd was beaten by the Joker and left to die in an explosion. The inside back cover of the issue listed two 1-900 numbers that readers could call to vote for the character"s death or survival. Within the 36 hour period alloted for voting, the poll received 10,614 votes. The verdict in favor of the character"s death won by a slim margin of 5,343 votes to 5,271.[6] The following issue of Batman, issue 428, was published featuring Jason Todd"s death. Despite the poll results, O"Neil noted, "We did the deed, and we got a blast of hate mail and a blast of negative commentary in the press."[7] A few comics creators voiced their displeasure at the event. Writer/artist Frank Miller, who had worked on Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One, said, "To me the whole killing of Robin thing was probably the ugliest thing I"ve seen in comics, and the most cynical."[8] However, DC stood behind the outcome of the poll. O"Neil was quoted on the back cover of A Death in the Family trade paperback collecting the story with Todd"s death as saying, "It would be a really sleazy stunt to bring him back."[9] However, O"Neil would later regret his decision.
Anyway, the Joker beats Jason Todd to an inch of his life, and then blows up him up (which kills Robin).

Another cool miniseries is when Black Adam goes nuts. In the DC Universe, Black Adam = evil Superman. As some has said, based on this crossover series (called World War III), Black Adam might be more powerful than Superman.

The jist of the story is that Black Adam"s family is murdered by terrorists. At the time, he had basically turned into a good guy. But, in a fit of rage, he goes to the country that sheltered the terrorists, and kills everyone he can get ahold of, innocent or not. He basically kills millions of people with his barehands. And then he goes on a rampage, from country to country, killing every person he can get his hands on. He basically fights the Earth himself. He fights armies as well as every superhuman on the planet all at once (other than Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman who are all missing at the time).

It was kind of like World War Hulk, except Adam killed millions of innocents, but the Hulk held back.

1- In the first pic, he kills soldiers by ripping their faces off.

2- In the second and third pics, he fights and kills two Teen Titans.

3- After that, he fights just about every hero in the DC universe whom he hasn"t killed already in a huge Battle Royale.

WWIII made World War Hulk look like ass.

P.S. It looks like the Rock will be playing Black Adam in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, and hopefully he"ll be as half as badass as he was in WWIII.

Batman beats Darkseid in a few seconds:Seriously, Batman needs to be nerfed. He had to time to prepare for Darkseid, and beats him in a few secs. At the same time, Superman got owned in this scene, and Batman saves him from Darkseid. Darkseid is one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe, and is their version of a deity.

You know the saying. Batman can beat everyone if he"s prepared.

Batman > All:Batman defeats Superman, the Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman, all because he had time to plan.

Supposedly in the upcoming live-action JLA movie, we are going to see Batman fight Superman and Wonder Woman. And we all know who is going to win, don"t we?

I don"t know if you guys have seen the older issues of JLA (before the 90"s), but they used to be protective of Batman because he was the only one that was a normal human. Superman used to be the guy to bail the JLA out if they go into trouble. But in the last decade, they"ve made Batman as powerful as Superman (if not more). And now the go-to-guy is Batman.

Those are all very memorable and most were in the news which shows how big storylines they really were, but I didn"t read Batman, Superman, and The Flash when I was growing up. Spider Man was my comic of choice and I think I still have all of my old Spidey comics somewhere in a box in my basement. So as a spidey fan I would like to make a list of my most memorable comic book moments:

1.Kravens Last Hunt(Marvel Comics 1987- 6 part series): Kraven's Last Hunt is a psychological thriller, in which Kraven the Hunter (who is Sergei Kravinoff, a famous big-game hunter who was obsessed with proving himself the ultimate hunter) kills spiderman then puts him in a coffin and then buries him. The tombstone reads: HERE LIES SPIDER-MAN SLAIN BY THE HUNTER. Then Kraven becomes Spider Man and fights crime but as a brutal killer, and eventually he caught a foe that Spider Man couldn"t catch on his own, so Kraven surpasses Spider Man in his mind. After 2 weeks Peter wakes up and realized he is burried underground. He was in a drug induced coma from Kraven"s drugged dart. And then he digs his way out of the grave.

The cover of him smashing out of the earth is an amazing cover. Eventually Spidey goes after Kraven but he beat the Spider and he has his peace. kraven gets his rifle and he shoots himself. His grave is next to Spider-Man"s: HERE LIES SERGEI KRAVINOFF KRAVEN THE HUNTER HE DIED WITH HONOR.

The artwork to this 6 issue series was amazing. The story line was amazing and the fact that spider man was killed and burried was pretty intense. I remember waiting a month for the next issue to see what was going to happen to spider man. This was way before Superman died or Batman broke his back, this was pretty unheard of at the time. Plus the series was pretty creepy and very well written.

2.VENOM:Amazing Spider-Man #299 (partial appearance as Venom)
Amazing Spider-Man #300 (full appearance as Venom)

Todd McFarlane in 1988 started to draw for Amazing Spiderman and he was right away my favorite artist. He drew Spider man better that anyone I have ever seen previously. All of his artwork was incredible. And to kick off his start at Amazing he created the best villan ever: Venom.

JAN072444.jpg

The storyline was fantastic. Eddie Brock a journalist who had a personal grudge against Spider-Man merging with the alien symbiote to create Venom, granting Brock a host of superhuman abilities similar to spiderman, since spiderman was the last host. This lead to some amazing fights, and eventually spiderman gave up his black costume and started wearing the red and blue one again because of venom.

Venom was a very cool character and looked cool back in the day, until other artists gave him a silly big tongue, a dumb smile, and all that slobber. It was because of this that made Todd McFarlane leave Marvel- essentiallyTodd created Venom yet Marvel actually owend the character so he had no control over his own character. Todd wanted control over the characters he created so he helped create Image and started Spawn.

Also Venom was responsible for creating another cool villan: Carnage.

3.Torment(1990 Spider Man 5 part Series) : Todd Mcfarlane started his own Spider Man series called Spider Man (There was already Web of Spiderman, spectacular spiderman, and Amazing Spiderman). The 1st issue cover was drawn so amazing and it is the best 1st issue cover I have ever seen in any comic book.

001.jpg

The 5 part series is sort of a continuation to Kravens Last hunt. Spidey fights the Lizard who captures spidey and takes him to: Kraven the Hunter. Yes we see at the end of issue 3 an image of Kraven the Hunter standing before spiderman with half of his head blown off. The image was awesome. I remember waiting for 2 weeks to see the next issue and see the return of Kraven the Hunter.

Burkex, some your pics aren"t showing. Anyway, for some reason, I was never into Spiderman as a kid. It just seemed like it was all the same rehashed stories with Aunt May and the same repetitive attacks from Doc Ock, Electro, Rhino and Mysterio.

As a kid, I didn"t collect any DC and read solely Marvel. Its only as an adult that I started to appreciate DC at all. Thor, X Men and Avengers were my fave books.

Here"s a pic of Thor whupping up on Silver Surfer. At the time, Thor was my favorite and Surfer was my best friend"s favorite. We used to argue about who would win in a fight, and then in Silver Surfer 86, we pretty much find out. A blood mad and semi-mind controlled Thor knocks out Beta Ray Bill and then proceeds to knock the Silver Surfer into the moon. Thor tries to kill an unconscious Beta Ray Bill and Surfer, but is then interuppted by Adam Warlock.

I fail at pics.

I think they are working now if not, fuck it, I"ll never figure it out lol.

I think Joker blowing up Robin was pretty huge maybe the baddest thing a villan has ever done, probably why the joker is seen as the worst villan in comic books. I never read DC comics or Batman but I did read that Death in the Family series.

Also, when Magneto Ripped Out Wolverine"s Adamantium was pretty huge thing for a villan to do. I read that storyline even though i never read Xmen or Wolvering comics. Wolverine lost his healing abils because his body was so messed up, in fact, Wolverine nearly died from the shock of losing the metal surrounding his bones and spent several years traveling the country with bone claws and an even bigger chip on his shoulders. It was a pretty cool storyline.

And as for Watchmen my favorite part in that book is when Rorschach is caught and put into jail. His talks with the shrink were haunting and yet so interesting and so well done. His survival in jail was amazing too. It was like when Omar went to jail in The Wire. Every villan in jail wanted him dead and he had to survive. He threw boiling oil in some guys face and had a sweet standoff in his jail cell with guys trying to get in and kill him during a riot.

Finally 1 more spiderman. Some people think this is the best single comic book story OF ALL TIME. It is the rise of the Kingpin and spiderman quits. I guess it is one of the most famous covers too. I never had the original but a copy of it sadly in Marval tales or something. I won"t do it justice so look here:
Amazing Spider-Man #50They used some of this story line in Spider Man 2 (the Movie with Doc Oct)

+ Captain getting killed (if he stays dead, no skrull bullshit please)
I am going to leave the Ultimates pic alone. I realize that some of you are younger than I am.

Anyway, we all know Cap is coming back. They"ve left themselves at least two ways to write him back in. They could use the whole Skrull War as an excuse. And also (I can"t remember the comic), there was some cosmic story, and it ended with it showing a figure trapped in ice floating on an asteroid in space. It sure looked like the last time he was thawed out of suspended animation from World War II until now.

X Men 135: Phoenix eats a star and kills the billions of inhabitants in that start system. This level of destruction by one being was back in the day when blowing up planets was rare, let alone star systems.
