The other issue though is that even if the contract allows any certification for 8570, the company probably would not reimburse me for CISSP where as they definitely will for Sec+ (1 try anyway).
Yeah not telling you to fight the man or anything but that the DOD has room for wiggle. Your bosses might not.

This could be due to them being stupid or it could be due to them having had this conversation with earlier employees that fucked it up. Who knows. Continue on the Sec+ but if you have other certs know that in the future it doesn't have to be CompTIA which is basically a scam company that got in good with the .gov to have everyone funneled to them.

I was under the impression you had the CISSP already then ya, continue with the sec+ if you need something. I have such a hatred towards compTIA, anything to not give them any money makes me happy. Seen many go cert happy when it comes to free, I dont generally like to tie up my free time unless it will benefit me later.

Yeah I'd prefer to do another for sure, but I have to satisfy 8570 within 6 months and since security+ is the one they have a class and reimburse for its just the easiest. Theyll pay for MCSA too but that's at my leisure so not worried about that one. I'm going to get it though since it will apply toward my compTIA ce's.

Cool. If i remember correctly, the Sec+ will get you thru the first 3years with renewal, if you can get the MCSA after that first renewal it will give you the next 3 years CE. Did that and currently riding it out till 2020.
Warning on their payment/CE completion. I have my CE's done and logged, just wont pay that last year payment until its a month within expiration. They have had a bad habit of reseting your renewal on completion of both parts. Wont take a chance to see if they fixed it.
Have some co-workers that have been screwed on that up to 6months, they screwed me on 2 months.

TIL how to configure my project and Gradle build process to keep multiple copies of certain classes aimed at specific build types. Hadn't needed to play around with it before, but with a major project release imminent, I realized I needed to adjust a couple of things, like turning off the extremely verbose logcat output on network calls. Pretty minor changes overall but it removes the need to be extra diligent when switching from one build type to another.

I got to bill a customer almost 900 dollars because they forget to set the default gateway when they swapped out a piece of equipment and couldn't figure out why they were having one-way audio issues.

Got tasked with making some guis. Haven't done that since junior year lol
Worst part of my job. First major project for me here was redoing the tool we use to prep devices and it took me two weeks to recreate all the UI screens, sans all the fuckery the previous dev had in them.

Someone give me a job doing remote sysadmin work. I don't care how junior it is. I sit around at work doing nothing and need something to do.

I come cheap! I just need more resume material and something to interest me.

Passed dat security+. It's pretty challenging. Not in a technical way, but in a "matching up poorly asked questions to shitty answers," way.

My new job ramped up real quick. Impressed them with my bug fixes and they have me designing code for the newest proposal that's out to like 2020 or something
