The Mummy

June 9th, 2017

They are making this part of the new Universal Cinematic Universe , combining all the monsters like Mummy, Frankenstein, Wolf Man, etc eventually. I believe Russell Crowe plays Dr. Jekyll.

Tom Cruise looks good as always but that trailer looks pretty crappy to be honest, the (mummy) villain looks pretty shitty compared to the 1999 Mummy movie, no on screen charisma and maybe doesn't even talk. Also seems to lack the dumb ass side kick these movies always need. You had Batiatus from Spartacus and the fez guy AND the egyptian guy.

Plus while the new chick is decent hot, how do you compare anyone to Rachel Weisz...

Saw the same preview I think about time you posted this from TWD. Seemed very bland to me. Even the special effects seemed to be missing the flare and the parts we did see was some awkward silence moments in the plane. Hopefully it is just early and they are still working it.

On its own this would be fine but the Mummy has been redone enough times now it really has to have something special if it wants to make it.

Sorry, but they lost me right away with the airplane bit. I saw Mythbusters Chicken Gun and Chicken Gun Revisited so I know that there are airplane windshields rated for bird strikes, which a military cargo plane certainly would have. The writers obviously didn't know that or they'd go for something more realistic like going into the propellers or something.

But ultimately it destroys any attempt at suspension of disbelief and neither the archeologist nor the mummy princess are hot enough to justify a theater viewing.

In a movie about the dead coming to life it's birds and a windshield that is your problem. Fucking nerds.

I can't stand the lead and generally boycott his movies on principle but I support Universal bringing back the thing they were known for in the golden age of movies. I'll give them 2, maybe 3 movies before really getting serious.

I'm sure it'll be entertaining. Hopefully more mummy stuff than just all out action.

Why did his screams in the crash sound like they were coming from a different person?

Malakriss: Seeing as it's a planned attack on an airplane, I think it's safe to assume those aren't normal birds

oh and the dead is coming back to life. I think that myth would be busted too

Brruuuuuuum..
Doesn't have the charm of the Brenden Fraiser Mummy for sure. Looked a bit derivative as well with sandstorm, etc.
Bruuuuuummmmm..
Super generic trailer. Major overuse of the foghorn thing.

Coming back to life bit/tied to mummy is possibly interesting. But totally unrealistic. Body intact after a plane crash? clearly would have been burned and/or torn apart. The writers obviously didn't know that or they'd go for something more realistic like being put back together or something.

But ultimately it destroys any attempt at suspension of disbelief and neither the archeologist nor the mummy princess are hot enough to justify a theater viewing.

similar to the horrible Point Break reboot they did it looks like they missed the mark completely at recreating what made the original Mummy fun to watch. the charm and likeability of Brendan Frasier in a movie that didn't take itself too seriously. this just looks like a generic action movie.

not only was rachel weisz ten times hotter, so is the mummy chick from the first movie. those two were such hotness i felt uncomfortable watching their duel in mummy 2 with other people around, because it felt like fap material.

That aircraft was a C-130 and I used to fly on them all the time in the Air Force. You needed to wear hearing protection inside the plane it was so fucking loud or you would go deaf. I've seen bird strikes on them where the pilots would come off the plane bloody because the window cracked from the impact and the blood seeped through the cracks but the window stayed in place. Special effects look unfinished, something seemed off about them.

Looks like they want to go more serious like world war z instead of the last trilogy.

The mummy queen is the white chick from star trek and the blade villain in kingsmen.
The blonde has been in a few things like the tudors.
But yeah no Rachel Weisz hotness here.

It's my understanding that this is a reboot of the original Mummy movie with Boris Karloff, not the Brendan Frasier movies. Maybe that's why there is some confusion of how this looks so far. Universal is restarting all their big monster movies from the middle of the century.

Oh I think it will be really awesome movie! I am the fan of Mummy and Brendan Fraser is one of my favorite actors! I've even found Mommy themed slot game. Has anybody tried?

I saw the Brendan Fraser Mummy movie at the cinema, and loved it. I was the guy telling people "you gotta see this film man!"

And co-incidence, I just re-watched it, a HD version, just a few weeks ago. Holds up really well.

As for this film, too early to tell.

Plus I don't think any Mummy movie can be called a remake of anything. It's such a long established story / theme.

Did planes have that super strong safety glass during the middle of the century? If not then the movie certainly has a more realistic vibe too it. It would explain how birds could break the windows.
