Has anyone else been watching this?

If you liked "Going Clear" you will like this . I find the show very interesting with the way the church is going after King of Queens lady.

The thing that blows my mind is this is the first time I have ever seen a former member use the words "Fraud" and "Cult". They have always tiptoed around it, and the "church" has always blocked this type of language.

They are going all in and I find it interesting. One of the last episodes had a scene where Leah and Mike Rinder were being following and recorded by Church Lackeys.

Its crazy to see seemingly intelligent people reflect on being pulled into a cult.

Glad to see her out and talking about it. I love anyone who brings down cults and most especially former members. I hope she shames other members such as Cruise, Travolta, Beck, and others too. I want to see David Miscavige die broke, broken, and alone, and preferably in a jail cell.

Good for Leah. I'll have to check this out sometime. Is this on Netflix or HBO or what?

Its on A&E - like 3-4 episodes in.

The Network covers their Ass big time, running a huge disclaimer at the start of the show and after every break. But They are going all in.

During a Q and A they addressed the Xenu thing and leah said most members dont actually believe in the alien shit, but believe in it as moral guide like some Christians do.

They dont bash the Xenu shit too much, or really the "religion" because many of the former members are still practicing Scientologists but not through the church.

This is all about the Abuse, and how people have to escape.

Gotcha.

Yeah they really do have to be careful with the Xenu shit. IIRC from the time I studied it at Operation Clambake - The Inner Secrets Of Scientology, the cult had successfully gotten the collective writings of L. Ron to be legally labeled as 'Trade Secret'. So if you steal or copy one of the super-whacky writings or some of L. Ron's original brain-diarrhea, they can come after you for corporate espionage or some shit. I remember Heldal-Lund's website was in Norway and he openly stated that as far as he was aware, him hosting stolen images of L. Ron's original texts was a violation of international copyright laws, but that he was doing it anyway. I imagine A&E has to tread carefully.

Still, glad they treading these waters at all.

I'm watching it, but I'm only like 3 episodes in. Enjoying it so far. I agree leah is mostly terrible, but at least she looks good (when she's not pulling a face) and I actually think that raspy voice is sexy.

I think with the xenu shit they mostly teach you regular stuff until you're at a certain level then they go SURPRISE ALIENS. I think the general consensus is its garbage.

Yeah you don't get Xenu until like OT7 and higher. That's several years and a hundred thousand dollars of books and classes already invested by the time that comes up. If you make it that far you are so deep in that you will accept it and move on.

They called out Miscaviage for making up the bullshit about L ron not dying, bu instead "ascending". And how he is trying to edit the writings to add new levels for more income.

I knew about their teachings in RE: feelings, auditing etc and how you can control your feelings and such, never knew they thought they are saving the world. Alot of this has been about how they truly think the religion is saving lives and saving the planet, and they cant walk away. They know Miscaviage is a dictator psycho but they take it to "Clear the Planet".

Ive always been a "LOL STUPID CRAZIES" person when the topic comes up. Ive really started to understand these people and how they can get sucked in. It humanizes them and you realize they are Bat Shit insane like Tom Cruise.

Sea Org sounds like a fucking nightmare, and I dont know how those Billion year contracts are legally binding.

Not even going to touch on the coerced abortions.

I think the appeal of Scientology can be broken down to two types:

#1) Want to be a personal God

#2) Desire a clearly defined path to being right

I think #2 is the lion's share of their user base. It is almost like getting addicted to an MMO. It gives you a clearly defined path to getting better. Like the idea that people engrossed in virtual worlds find pleasure is virtual achievements because they're lacking achievements in their actual lives. Do X, Y and Z and you will "level up" if you will in the church. It gives tangible goals and targets and once you meet them you're presented new goals and targets. Unlike traditional religion which has more abstract goals and targets. It makes a bit of sense to me but the logical half of my brain refuses to believe anyone is this dumb to feed this church money.

I am related indirectly to the Reminis. (Long story)

Suffice it to say they are all nuts.

I still can't believe that somehow people are held against their own will for "Reprogramming" or whatever the hell they call it. Crazy cult that I cannot believe exists in this day and age.

I'm caught upon this now. So, they keep saying their goal is to get congress to do something about scientology. Anyone got any ideas what could be done? They're documenting a lot of illegal things, but I don't think we've seen anything that's provable yet. For instance, all the beatings. I'm sure if charges were pressed it would be 1 person's word against a dozen scientologists who say it didn't happen.

If anything takes the down it will probably be the intimidation and destroying of evidence. Then the next question is, if they get scientlogy taken down, could they use the same mechanism to take down islam and maybe even all religions. I can tell you that if that's their ultimate goal, they need to play it close to the chest. Because right now they'd probably get a lot of support from Christians as long as they don't think the long game is to outlaw all religions.

Maybe this belongs in the general section. Are we talking about this shit in any other threads right now?

Oh yeah, and during the last episode I had to pause it for a couple of minutes because I suddenly remembered Battlefield Earth and started laughing that they must consider that a holy work.

I enjoyed her book (And the Documentary "Going Clear") a bit more.

This show suffers from the same issues as every other documentary show recently. (Spooky music, cut scenes all over the place, etc.)

20/20 tonight, Leah vs Church Rep. Should be good.

I dont know what you mean about them wanting Congress to do something...I havent heard that once. I could be deaf.

This is more about exposing their practices to prevent recruitment and aid escapes. If anything too they would not want Congress taking down the religion, but revoking their tax free status.

Everyone laughs at Scientologists as whack jobs. This show wants you to see they are fucking EVIL...At least at the top levels.

Yeah, you must be deaf. Leah and mike said it at least a couple times in one episode that they want us to write our congressmen to take action. One of those actions might be revoking tax exempt status, but I don't think think they've actually called for that on the series yet. Sounds like it would be a good start though.

Now what I'm wondering is, what's life like for a rank and file scientologist? These stories they're telling can't be the norm because if everyone is working for the church, where's all the church's money coming from? They don't have enough high priced actors to bankroll everything they have going on.
