Overview: [PLOT]The ten-episode series Alone will put hardcore survivalists by themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness, without camera crews, teams, or producers – on a single mission to stay alive for as long as possible. The last person standing will win $500,000.[/PLOT][/SERIESWRAP][/SERIES]

They dump 10 guys in separate locations on Vancouver Island with minimal supplies and the last man standing wins $500,000. I've been streaming it from their website and I'm 4 episodes in. It's pretty fun and stressful to watch.

Really like this show a lot, but it could be so much better.

I've read a lot of interviews with people who have been on the show and it's pretty clear that it's as real as it gets, but the editors really love to form their own narratives when making the show. They're essentially creating characters out of real people.

Like in a recent season someone was show nto never have fished and if you just watched the show you'd think they were arrogant and foolish for focusing on big game but you find out he did fish almost every day, he just wasn't having success. Stuff like that is irritating because I think the show would be a lot better for being honest about what they're doing and it wouldn't have to take that much time, either.

Still, there's not really anything else like it on TV.

I’m dumb, this was in eastern/northern Canada somewhere.
It was kind of a boring season.
Yeah, 9 wasn't great. When no one gets big game it really becomes a starving contest. I give credit to the winner for deciding to really lean into that and realize that if no one else had big game it probably wasn't worth spending the calories for a lot of activity when you're near the end. Not fun to watch but smart play by him.

On the flip side, on seasons where big game was taken it kind of removes any tension because you know they're almost certainly going to be the winner.

I hope there comes a season where two players get a big game kill. That could get super interesting.

And that guy didn’t boil any of his water the whole time.

That dude a couple seasons ago shanking the musk ox with his knife to finish it off was pretty crazy.

Roland - that dude is a total badass.

This season has been solid. I really hated the "mini" season they had with returning players last winter or whatever. They basically stacked the deck so they could get a female to "win".

How did they stack the deck? Because it was half female? I'm not sure that's quite stacking the deck.

Everybody else had been there at least 44 days on their previous run so it's not like they were bringing in dudes who were week one tappers. It just seems like most of them weren't prepared to go down that starvation road again.

Well for one, they put Mark back in who had already bitched out his first time around fairly "early" - yeah, I know he had trichinosis or whatever, but that's because he was retarded and likely CAME to the show with it already inside him. Then they threw Greg in there who was clearly already too old even in Patagonia, way back in S2 or whatever it was. The only dude who had any real longevity/win potential in his season was Amos.

Then they added Michelle, who only lasted like 20 days or something on her original season and is all of about 12 lbs. soaking wet - so she clearly doesn't have a body built for the "starvation" a winter season would entail.

They set it up for either Woniya or Callie to win. And the only reason Callie didn't is because she didn't want to go through what she went through in S7 again. They basically added a bunch of contestants that were already known as early tappers, too old, or clearly didn't have the body mass/willpower to ever win a season. It was also stupid in that you only had to last 50 days in order to "win".

The season was clearly "stacked" in order to give every possible advantage to Woniya, while trying to maintain an illusion of "competition". Don't get me wrong, Woniya is a badass but as her OG season showed, she just isn't quite good enough to win against real competition.
