For a second, I felt like I needed to justify my purchase to a bunch of neckbeards on a forum dedicated to killing dragons in a mostly defunct MMO.

Then I remembered, I'm an adult and I really don't give a fuck.

I enjoy it for what it is and my kids will LOVE it. I spent 3x as much to go to Disney. Now that's stupid.

Also: you and Utnayan Utnayan 's critiques are entirely fair, and I'm cool with redpilling fanbois and calling out bullshit, which some of this clearly is Nintendo bullshit. But you need to put the "I'm an adult" shit on hold. That's about the fastest way to get shut down and is pretty much the antithesis of being an adult.
Wait you only spent $1200 to go to Disney?

Yeah, I'm an adult and I would have bought this, even with a poor launch line up, if it had the following;

Joycons that worked
Accessories weren't double the price of standard
Online was on the console
Account based sharing was allowed
Eshop purchases could (and should have) been transferable so I didn't lose my library of 3ds purchases
The battery life lasted longer than 3 hours on AAA games
Charge grip was included on purchase
VC was included
A Dolby / DTS license instead of advertising for 5.1 LPCM when Nintendo knows damn well they aren't fitting an uncompressed 5.1 audio track on a 16 gb cart that also stores the entire game. Meaning, welcome to simulated surround or stereo.
Bluetooth audio for portable. (I mean come on)
Better engineered dock that doesn't scratch the shit out of the bezel of the portable.

More here obviously. Including addin value to their online sub. I would pay a premium to have access to their VC library of NES and SNES games. Not only would they sell a shit ton of switched, they would have a massive sustained revenue stream. I cannot believe how they missed this or their ridiculous line of thinking that led to not seeing this.

3 hour battery life in reality is more like an hour to an hour and a half.

I just don't see how this system helps Nintendo right now at all.

Lol, something like that. Closer to $1500 (3x $500, since that's what NS costs with a game and an extra controller).

We took a trip to SD just after my wife gave birth to #2, drove from Phoenix which is about a 5 hour drive, and on a whim thought it might be fun to go to Disney while we were there.

Kids were under 3 so it was $100/ea for my wife, +gas/rental house/groceries. It was just a quick weekend jaunt. It was still a total waste as my kids were way too young at the time and we went on maybe 3 rides. Still a great experience :)

Back in the day of the original Wii, I had a guildie in WoW who made a killing buying up and reselling Wii's while they were in high demand.

Bet he got burned like this as well.

Zelda IS fun so far. But yeah, at this point you are paying for a console in clear alpha status that shouldn't have been launched until all systems were go in the fall.

Every console release has rough edges, its difficult this early to know how prevalent issues are; the screen scratching might be a couple hamfisted morons on a forum or it might be something everyone needs to be careful of.

Yeah. My opinion on that is leaning more towards poor design being that the support page tells people to keep joycons away from aquariums. :) but in all seriousness it could be just idiots. Time will tell.

One. No matter what you say. You are never going to play this thing while you poop unless you are grandpa Fred from 16 candles. The other two are right up your alley. :)

Me? I have a massive library on my 3DS aside from not being able to play the new Zelda and AAA games that won't be out anyway for a while. And I have a Wii U for Zelda.

I can see it for kids. :) they are much more forgiving because they do not understand how hard daddy's wallet is being fucked. One day they will, and many years from now while you are playing bingo in a nursing home, those kids will come in for a visit, hand you a banana, and say, "thanks for jumping the grenade on that one for us. Now that we are older, we realize what a pile of shit that thing was. But you loved us so much you spent your money on shit just to make us happy because we were too young to know it's shit. And for that, we thank you dad. Oh hey, they called O64 and you have a bingo you deaf son of a bitch!"

btw target is holding back stock for its ad sale tomorrow, so if you really want to get a switch go in store tomorrow morning before open at target and you will definitely get one. a couple people have said they are holding 40+ free units at each target for sale tomorrow. They are also getting ANOTHER shipment of switches on monday. Dunno why nintendo is treating target so nicely with these things.

While it seems funny its also a spot with that has the potential to have a lot of electrical equipment which may not be properly shielded.

Amazing how it has never interfered with any other console, including the original Pong machine. I mean, I guess they are trying to think of anything to downplay poor QC on their hardware. At least they are original. :)

Pong doesn't come with wireless controllers ;) I would assume the list is derived from past experiences with other consoles or from the wireless chipset manufacturer.

Pong came with unsheilded cables on their controller paddle and it didn't kill fish!

Save the fish. Don't buy a switch.

Does anyone else hate the joycons as much as I do? Way too small and the button placement, especially on the left joycon, is uncomfortable. In Zelda, trying to swap weapons forces me to adjust my grip to reach the button and then adjust back to comfortably use the stick again. I didn't have any desync problems though and I expected to (tons of other wireless stuff nearby in the living room and I was sitting about 8 feet from the console and tv screen.

I guess I'll eventually need to buy the pro controller, but I do not want to spend an extra $70+.

+ Some fucking games besides Zelda which plays practically identical on Wii U.

Those are the ones that stopped me from buying one too, and the sad thing is I'm the exact type of person it was designed for. I spend much more time not at home these days and would have loved to replace my 3DS with a Switch, while also being able to dock it when I get back. Even the battery life wouldn't have been a problem since plugging it in is fine (although that retarded ass charging port is... I guess they want everyone to buy the Hori stand).

Honestly, next to the utter lack of games for who the hell knows how long, it's the Bluetooth that was the biggest deal-breaker. I guess it makes sense now though--if they can't even keep the joycons connected then they sure as hell wouldn't have been able to do A2DP/aptX on the same radio.

I love me some Zelda, don't lose my shit over framerate drops, and would primarily use the Switch in portable mode... but I'm waiting until VC/more games are released and they figure the core hardware issues out. Obviously either the firmware or hardware needs some significant revision. "Play within 7 feet of the console." Wtf?

I bet these will start popping up for cheap on craigslist once people play through Zelda and get bored.

I'll probably end up buying one but for be the pricing is just not there for he value right now and the game library at launch is retarded. Lower the overall sunk cost by $100 between switch/games/acc and port over more older games and some 3DS titles and I would have been all over this just as a portable unit. I didn't buy a Wii U because I didn't know it was even a new console until I learned it was Trash and my 3DS is the newest version but I rarely play it after finishing a few titles I wanted to play in it.

It wouldn't have been hard for Nintendo to make this a must buy. Make a few better decisions and drop a Battle Ogre port in launch library and I would have camped overnight to get one.
