So many people talk about PoP lock being great, but once people realize the endgame is super shallow it'll lose a lot of players.

Kunark was the big surprise to me on this last batch of prog servers. The nostalgia in my noodle was anchored there because it was a period I played a great deal of but I wasn't a raider or anything. In actually that expansion is shallow as fuck.

Yeah, once people have their epics it's just Trak, VS and VP.

They were added, and I'd imagine they'll be actually useful in era. They added them while we were in PoP on Phinny so kind of useless at that point.

Also a good recommendation for the free 85 heroic character? I'll probably never play it but just in case. Usually play Mage, Monk & warrior in EQ. I haven't touched live in 14+ years so I have no idea what anything is like there.

You can also get a free heroic character on a brand new account so you could set up a couple of them if you wanted.

I can't actually see playing one though. You entire into the game and all your gear has clicks and you have a full hotbar of abilities with no tool tips and a mountain of AA and all your spells and it's confusing as fuck.

I made a SK. HT at 85 does 100,0000 and he crits for like 7000 with a one-hander.

Does anyone play on Live and have a current max level character? Does the math continue this insane progression or is it fairly linear afterwords? I can't really imagine 60 to 85 having the same scaling as 85 to 110 or whatever the current cap is.

At 105 without any assistance DPS from other characters good burn DPS over 3 minutes for a maxed out SK is about 200k. Good unbuffed HP is 190k. And fully buffed is around 250k or something.

Numbers are just numbers really, the basic mechanics in modern EQ are the same as the mechanics during the PoP era, for better or worse. There are some general changes, ex: crit chances and damage are pretty high, resists are totally maxed out such that there isn't resist gear.

One big mudflation issue is there's a max normal hit that's uh, around 754k. Berserkers (Who are head and shoulders above everyone else in DPS) regularly hit for that amount. Warriors can hit that with rampage (PBAE attack).

The biggest change is that just about everybody has to use a tremendous amount of abilities in order to hit the skill cap. SKs have to constantly cast spells, warriors have like 20 abilities we spam and 40 mitigation abilities. I don't want to pick a fight but I prefer that over playing an old school warrior where you just uhm, hit slam and can use defensive disc. I remember reading all the dragonlance novels in 2000 while playing a warrior. In modern EQ I three box a war, bard and mage. I don't know how anyone can stand to play a truebox warrior in Phinigel.

The heroic characters thing is kind of interesting, I might have to try that out. Could set up a decent box crew with my 5 accounts.

Wish this was coming out sooner. Going to be moving this summer and I always get a solid month or two at least out of these launches. Free 85's on all my accounts might be fun at some point though. Playing too many games atm, but maybe soon I'll three box my way to glory on some dead server. Did it a few years ago on Test and had a lot of fun.

Hah, yea honestly I may go one or two box max this time...5/6 boxing is what killed me really.

Its fun, but its a pain in the ass to move around, set up, and do all that other tedious shit. But once youre set up and get a good system going, its fun as hell. At trhe other hand playing just one character is boring as fuck too unless youre in some gold tier group.

Would definitely like to know if there's something within my personal ethics that works around it for sure.

It might make Agnarr feasible to me - I don't love the idea of a PoP-lock [most of my dream of TLP is catching up with Live - but in theory they could offer transfers to Agnarr+ when it's done so that's fixable]

I had some rose colored glasses on for years of nostalgia thinking PoP was amazing during live. However, I must say, after playing Nagafen's Lair Emu for so long (PoP locked) I have to agree with Sterling. Once you enter PoTime, the entire rest of the game is pointless. Nothing else is of any value once you're farming Time. Sure, the ride is fun as shit but you literally become locked to one zone for all gearing. Super shallow indeed.

I just don't know if I have the patience for running six characters at the same time but I might learn it before the server launches.

I would love to hear how, I know how to make multiple VM's. I mean how do you control them all properly with software and not several keyboards and mice. To me that part sounds immensely frustrating but it is EQ so nothing is exactly super intensive. Unless something has changed I don't know about.
