anytime im exiting an entrance the same time someone is entering an entrance and they dont yield to me, I walk straight at them instead of squeezing past
In Boston, especially the college areas, if you are walking alone there is a cultural expectation for the single person to yield and give full way to the 2 pair or trio. This is a universal thing in that area. Especially if you are a certain skin color, you are fully expected to give way 100% of the time. And I mean ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE TIME. This was discussed and confirmed among all college pals who had similar experiences.
Now I was always taught both parties should give a little way. I'm a Judeo-Christian values man. I realized, hey wait a minute, these people are fucking rude. Is it really because I'm white that they aren't giving me even 10% way?? I'm a big guy, why aren't they giving at least 5% way?? Where is the civility? They don't even FLINCH!
THEY AREN'T CONCERNED ABOUT GIVING WAY LIKE I AM?!? Fucking racist cocksuckers..
So years later I returned to my stomping grounds all hulked out on various stuff and one night out at the club I had drunk a good amount and suddenly remembered the Bostonian penchant for not giving way people have (yeah, slow night...)
3 of us approaching 3 other club goobers, decided the one in my path was going to take the heat for several years of giving way. He was the effigy of all that is wrong with not giving way and improper street etiquette, even though he hadn't done anything yet to demonstrate lack of said way-giving.
Looking back it was a huge asshole move (the goobers were probably normal people like me, not some punks or thugs. I picked a bad mark due to the alcohol), but I bowed up at the last second and checked the fatass goober in the chest without leaving my lane. Minor scuffle/argument/posturing/words ensued. But felt good man because moral highground was maintained by not leaving my lane.
You can only give so much way before way has to be taken back with force. inb4 islamic swede.
oh and tldr; get married, have kids, and continue to give way!
