I know a few people who have. Below decks off hours is the ghetto house party you would expect. The stories I heard were a cross between living in a closet sized frat house and being an inmate in a super max prison.

A chick I know used that as a spring board to the merchant marines. She ended up doing supply runs for the USN to the the ME making good hazard pay. They all set up residency in FL for cheap taxes. No rent, no bills and no place to spend your pay check. After 8 yrs she retired with a fat bank account and 2 houses paid for. She was a decent looking woman, I am guessing she probably banged a boat full of dudes every trip.

I think working on a cruise ship in some sort of non guest facing role would be fun actually.

Though I have a feeling it's in of those jobs that basically enslaves you.

I was told that crew is not allowed above deck during off hrs. I was told if you fired they confine yoi to cabin til they port. Like a submarine your bunk has 2 other people who sleep in it when you aint in it. Also zero tolerance for fraternizing with guests.

I had a friend who was a dishwasher, and the other 2 shifts quit / fired right as they embarked. He got stuck covering 3 shifts for 8 days. He was pretty salty and quit when they docked. He spent all his money snorting coke to stay awake those 8 days.

Apprently they don't hire Americans, but Filipino slave races because they work for cheap and don't mind sleeping 4 to a bunk in the hull of the ship.
