Another comment on my OLED experience. I download all of my TV content - rips of US series. With this OLED I have to make sure the files I get are as high a quality as possible. This TV really exposes the flaws and low bitrate 720p and 1080p encodes.

Before I got this TV I would sometimes download 720p files - that might be the only option on IPT the day after they've aired. But 720p looks terrible, so as stated above I make sure it's 1080p or above.

Someone here also recommended the WEB-DL versions, they tend to be a lot cleaner despite the smaller file size

Hey bros,

Last big TV purchase I made was back in 2008.
Just moved and put the old 67" DLP in the basement, need something new.

Seriously considering the 65" Curved 4K from Samsung: Amazon.com: Samsung Electronics UN65MU6500 Curved 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2017 Model): Electronics
I'll be buying from Best Buy using CC points primarily. Planning to mount in a corner, so the curvature should be fine, will be angled 45 degrees.

I just don't know if Curved TVs are good/bad. Reviews are mixed.
I don't think Glare will be an issue where I'm putting it, and viewing angles should be fine as well.
Some reviews say Curved only makes a difference when 65" and above.

4K seems to be standard and not very expensive right now.
OLED/QED is way too expensive imo, not even considering it.

I need this setup before GoT next month.

Anything else I should be considering?

Curved is literally personal preference. I'm not personally a fan, since it distorts my perspective of the image, as content isn't really designed around it. If you're dealing with an 70"+ screen that's fairly close, you probably won't even notice the curve, and may enhance your viewing.

I have the 55" version of this panel, and I'm pissed, because it uses a different panel than the 50 and 65 models. Flashlighting on the left side corners (white ghosting on black screens). The 50 and 65 versions do not have this problem and are some of the best for blacks. Only thing better are $4k displays from Sony.

buy the KS8000 not the KS6500 for your primary TV, the difference is night and day (or KS8500 if you really want curved). The KS6500 series only does HDR on port 1, the other 3 ports are only 4k but NO hdr, and the panels on the 8000 are better quality. The newer QLED Samsung models are better, and the 2018s will be even better with VRR.

The LG OLEDs are constantly dropping in price, the 65" was available for $2200 at Frys with NO TAX on May 28th, just sign up for the daily Fry's sales email blast and keep track of it. Its also currently $2400 on eBay with free shipping and you get back $100 in eBay bux. I don't like buying big TVs for shipping though, I still like going into a store and loading it into my truck and returning it if there are any problems.

just set up a price alert on slickdeals.net for LG OLED if you have a month or two timeframe and you'll pretty much find a deal on the 55" for $1300 or the 65" for $2200. That is really the best TV you can buy right now.

Good stuff, I just can't justify paying over 2k for a TV, I'm using CC points to get 1k in best buy gift cards cause I really don't want to spend more then 500 out of pocket.

The 8000/8500 seem worth considering and the LG if it can be picked up for the 1300 you say, but doubt Best Buy will drop their pants even if they"price match". I've done this before where BB refused to match an Amazon price so I just bought from Amazon.

You need more than one HDR port for HDR console gaming, UHD 4k HDR blu-rays, PC HDR gaming (PC HDR media streaming is currently not working properly)

If you think you will be using more than one of the above devices then you need additional HDR ports.

The above model will have netflix and amazon prime built in, both have HDR content available

I'd probably only have 1 4k device, most 4k will be through streaming or maybe a 4k player. I don't really care much about 4k tbh. Just seems like everything is 4k anyways. I own no consoles. I have an onkyo receiver that would need replacing if I want everything 4k. If I just get a new onkyo then that's all I need and the 1HDR should be fine, right?

yeah if you do no gaming and only watch stuff through streaming then the 6000/6500 is fine, I actually have one in the guest room, 55" Sam's Club model I got last black friday for $350, and I have a KS8000 in my office and screen quality wise they are very close, the 8000 is a little better at blacks and the HDR is a little brighter but otherwise they are pretty similar except for the 1-port-HDR thing. If that doesn't matter to you then yeah i'd go for the 6500

best buy will also PM Fry's if you have one in your area

depending on which amazon seller you choose (you can choose other sellers), if it's the same price you might also skirt away w/o paying tax.

So I'm currently running a 46" Samsung 1080p LCD that's probably about 8-10 years old at this point. The only thing I have connected to it is a PS4, which runs the Netflix, Hulu, Plex, etc. So because of that the single HDR port doesn't seem like it'd be a big deal for me. I also don't want a curved screen. Due to price, 55 inch is my target size. Would you recommend just waiting for a SlickDeal on the LG OLED? I just setup alerts for it, or is there something else you would recommend? Sounds like maybe waiting for Black Friday might be the best bet.

65" curved LG OLED C6 is $2100 at Fry's apparently, 55" is $1300
Lg OLED65C6P 65" curved OLED 4K HDR TV $2099 @ fry's ($1599 with PP)

you do need a discount code, I have two (get em daily) if you really need one just PM me its only valid for 6/18 but good idea just to sign up for Fry's daily email which gives you your own code (but it wont give one today)

Get the LG Oled, that's a ridiculous price for both the 65 and 55. See if they have the B6 - same display but flat screen in any offers, or just get the curved.

I paid £2300 for my 2015 55" OLED

Looks like the deal is on the weekly promo code lists, but requires the promo codes from 6/18 to get the deal? Promo codes for Frys changes every day it looks like.

And Ossoi, if I get this TV, I promise to stop downloading SD content!

Welp, gonna have to start downloading 1080p or better content! Just picked up the LG OLED 55" , C6.

My Fry's had an open box of it, and bull shit or not, who knows, but the salesmen explained that he sold it to the guy the day before, but the guy came back and bought the LG 65" open box instead. I'll be able to check, but if his story is true, got a brand new open box.

$1240 plus tax for the LG C6 55"

I eagerly await your "WTF was I doing downloading SD content all these years!?" post. Seriously bro, I had to restrain myself from dogpiling on about that!

Was just watching Hulu last night, but tonight will probably get into some of my Plex content thats in SD. I was able to notice a few times on Hulu where the picture wasn't that great. I have no idea how to see what it's streaming at, or capable of streaming at? Is there like a setting on Hulu or Netflix to make sure it's streaming at the highest quality possible?

So we'll see. I mean my old LCD was 1080p capable, so it wasn't completely terrible, and I was watching SD content all day long. What's gonna happen is I'm going to upgrade to HD, and then I'm going to quickly run out of space on my 2 TB media drive, and have to upgrade that. It's going to cause a chain reaction of upgrades! Might be nice...
