Close, but Nicol Bolas is trying to re-achieve 'Godhood' status. He might destroy a plane to suck it's power, but he wouldn't want to destroy the entire multiverse unless he's remaking it in the process. He's not an anarchist that wants to burn it all down, he wants total control over everything. Needs to have people worshiping his magnificence.

The 'zombies' can all have magic too. You got your foot soldier cannon fodder to overwhelm any standing armies if he needs to invade. You got your dead mages that have minor magic still. The Eternals that are super powerful zombies. Then, at the top he's got his zombie gods like the Locust/Scorpion/Scarab gods. Etc.. he has many types of soldiers now, the zombie ones are completely under his control, and then he has 'allies' like Razaketh, Tezzeret, etc.. that he's coerced into doing his bidding.

If he needs to invade or takeover something, he doesn't want to spend his own magic and do it himself. He can just send his super friends army of zombies, gods, demons, etc.. to do it and only show up himself when he really has to. Without some planar portals, though, he couldn't send them from plane to plane so easily. Now, he could even potentially go to war with Phyrexia, depending if he's figured out an immunity to the plague. This army is potentially strong enough if Phyrexia isn't absorbing them into their ranks as they fight. Pretty sure the 3 gods of devastation are stronger then anything Phyrexia has put together so far, including the 5 praetors (?). With the exception of Karn, but he got freed from them.

Honestly, I'm guessing Nicol Bolas isn't going to be defeated any time soon, and it'll take someone like Karn showing back up before the gatewatch even has a chance. I'm also guessing the story is going to be Ajani finding Karn (and others) and he joins the gatewatch after helping them 'defeat' Bolas, weakening but not killing him. In any case, I bet we don't see too much more of Bolas until the Dominaria set. Ixalan is going to be some of the gatewatch members being scolded by Ajani ('told you so!') after their defeat and splitting up to search for more allies to take him on. They said they were going to step back from all the members being in every set, they felt they over did it on that for the last two years.

In any case, the story for amonkhet has been great imo. I really dig what they've done with Bolas, and the fact he punks the Gatewatch after they thought they were so untouchable beating the eldrazi is amazing.
Oh yeah I think he wants to burn it all down to remake it in his image. He's been around a while, Sorin isn't as old and doesn't give much fucks about anything, he must have something bigget than going back to normal driving him.

Another elder dragon needs to resurface
I had hoped they would do that at some point, but I think they made it canon that they were all dead (think Bolas even made sure of this and killed most of them?) except for him. Maybe with some time travel/'a wizard did it' shenanigans it could happen, though. Ugin seems to be the closest thing we've gotten.
Karn is such a fan favorite, and potentially the most powerful 'planeswalker' left other then Bolas, which is why I think he'll get involved. I mean, he got freed from New Phyrexia, and then we didn't hear anything. Seems like a huge waste of potential to not bring him back as fan service. A few karn related cards would help push a set to certain casual demographics. He has some mastery over all colors of magic, it doesn't need to be an artifact/colorless themed set for him to show up.

Yea, but 'going back to normal' for Bolas would mean he likely becomes the most powerful entity in the multiverse. The only things that rivaled him before are all gone/de-powered for the most part.

They should retcon something about elder dragons now that Ugin is back alive. Terrible waste of all the other old Legends dudes.

Chromium planeswalker plz.

The only Elder Dragons left are the new ones on Tarkir, and those only exist because Nicky thinks he killed Ugin (and he did, before timey wimey bullshit), so no reason to check back in on Tarkir since there should have been no new Dragons spawning.

Also, Kotaku garbage has a new identity politics front! Athletic Successful people can't be Real Nerds yo! Haha he scrubbed out of a tournament he must be COMPLETELY RETARDED.

The fuck. I'd expect this article in 1996 magic.

That article is amazing. You can hear the pedantic whiny voice this dude talks in as he hides in his basement crusading against Chads invading his world while inside he dies a little bit because there being even a single in-shape person in a room full of magic players lowers his chances with the single girl there to literally 0.

Those 5 dragons wouldnt have shit on an elder dragon. Ugin is the closest to an elder dragon, but he isnt quite the same thing.

The only way we're ever getting a Timespiral style "REFERENCES!" set again is as a Summer Draft/Multiplayer Weirdness Product, so that it's tucked safely away from the new players that make up wotc's expansion set focus group.

Time Spiral was sweet, but yeah I doubt they'd ever make another set with that many mechanics even if there's only a few cards with each one.

They could do a set that has the flavor/story of Time Spiral, just not the stupid amount of mechanics. That was their big failure. It alienated newer and casual players. It was too focused on pleasing the old school players, but those are such a tiny portion of the active player base.
I think our return to Dominaria is going to be the closest thing to a new Time Spiral style set.

I'm just happy they said we're never seeing Humanoid Slivers again, even if they did confirm we're saddled with "your slivers have..." as effect line going forward.

Looks like a pretty interesting bit o' cardboard. Valuetown USA. Of course, you have to sacrifice a billion years of tempo in the process :)

I am sad that this clown gets to open what is probably the largest stockpile of classic MTG sealed product left in existence. No idea how he ended up with so much to open, and I don't think he fully grasps how lucky he is by watching some of his videos.

Most recent opening of a couple Antiquities packs.

Idk, alpha investments might have a stock pile as big.
