There's NO RULE THAT SAYS THE LETTER IN THE ACRONYM HAS TO BE PRONOUNCED THE SAME.

The guy who invented it says it's pronounced "jiff". It's meant to sound like "jiffy" as in speedy. IT'S JIFF
