Its not just knowledge - application of said knowledge is important.
Lot of people that should/do know better but still suck it up.

I mean MMOs "skill" falls more in line with ability to commit time and efficiency (knowledge). With the occasional reaction ability; WoW raids, dealing with adds etc.

Certainly not shooter level.

The truth between Skill and Knowledge in EQ? Your guild does ToV all the time. Every player in your guild knows the route, the monsters you pass and anything else. Yet, somehow, someway, Bob and Susan always fucking die. They alwayssssssss fucking die. Then I have to send some bitchy ass cleric out to rez them because the rest of the guild likes them. Thats your difference.

From what I remember about raiding with you, it's always you that needs the Rez

EQ does have some skill involved, it's just that acceptable threshold is absurdly low. The fact that people fall below it is crazy.

EQ Devs haven't worked weekends in years. This should surprise no one.

I know Daybreak/SOE functions a lot different than most companies but if their GMs are working weekends, their liveops team should be too.
Something as simple as a DNS entry not resolving properly shouldn't take over 48 hours.

Man I saw this trucidation guy in solb for the last few weeks, nice guy but dude was leveling 12 or so toons at once at bats/bugs. Probably be the next besteva aka banned running around with 12 fuckin chars.

I've actually seen hludwolf in CL tunnel on the weekend, isnt he a dev? He was flagged as a GM so I assume he was working.

There are more skillsets in gaming than just twitch/reaction/aiming skills. There's games that have no dodging/reaction speed at all, like some of the turn based strategy games or the old isometric wargames they don't make much anymore on PC that require a lot of strategic thinking skill but Stephen Hawking could physically play them since it's turn based. Or even more traditional games like Chess--there's obviously skill there because some people are vastly better than others.

Now, I'm not comparing EQ to high-level chess, but just pointing out low action per minute games can still involve skill. With a lot of MMOs I do think there would be a lot of skill involved if people still had to game out their own strategies to boss encounters, but with most modern MMOs people have detailed step-by-step videos on how to beat a boss that are polished and released before it goes live. So then it's just a matter of dodging and knowing the correct sequence of buttons to press to maximize your characters. I do think the button mashing skills required in any MMO I've played are a lot lower than games like the Street Fighter series, dota2, StarCraft 2 etc.

EQ is not a hard game. Never was, never will be. Sometimes I feel like I'm slipping into a coma when I'm playing this game because its so basic. Strategy games require skill because your choices can have many different actions and outcomes, and you have to be constantly thinking ahead and strategize a plan. There's nothing in EQ like that at all.

You know how you make EQ a skill game? let an actual person play as the raid mob. They could target whoever they wanted, fire skills in random directions, etc. Suddenly you have to react and think instead of park X mob in corner and go through the rotation.

Playing a single class in EQ can get quite boring.

I have been having a blast triple boxing enchanter/shaman/bard.

Might not take too much "skill" but there is a hell of a lot going on.

Doing something I've never bothered to do in all my years playing EQ.

Leveling tradeskills.

200 brewing was easy
200 blacksmithing was expensive.

I'm fishing now
