If you're picking up a chainsaw you better buy a pair of chaps as well. Chainsaws deserve respect, and ALL the protection you can have. A pair of chaps saved me from a 6 inch gash on the top of my right thigh.

I get people wanting to see their property and tarp their roof and shit. That will come at a cost of getting basic services back and getting the area functional again.

First off, I call bullshit that some people going back will hinder getting basic services back. It's not like people are moving their entire families back and will resume commuting to work again on monday. People who want back in will only be the men or people who can work. They will mostly not be staying long. If I were in that situation, I'd only be interested in assessing damage, and saving as much of my stuff as I could. I bet that's the majority of the people wanting back in.

Second, the government needs to realize that being unreasonable about keeping people away from their property comes at a cost too. In this case the cost is that those people will be less likely to evacuate the next time a storm comes through. These people have assloads of anxiety that could be nearly eliminated by 1 visit to their house. At that point they can start making actual plans instead of sitting there on their thumbs trying to guess how much of their life is ruined.

Here in the southeast there's now one saw on a logging site. It's kept in the loader/truck for cutting long logs that get loaded on the trailer by accident right before they leave the deck. Everything else is mechanicl like a feller bucher, and the loader which has a chainsaw arm to trim logs to length as they are loaded.

Workmans comp probably really went down.

Rangoth Rangoth and anyone else who thinks chaps are a joke. They aren't.

I was a lumberjack for a few years and have over 1000 hours of chainsaw run time under my belt. You don't need to be afraid of chainsaws, but you need to understand how dangerous they can be. As I said my chaps saved me from a nasty cut, and my chainsaw wasn't under power when it happened. I had gotten off the throttle and let the saw drop, but the chain still had momentum and was rotating on its own, ate right into my chaps, Jeans wouldn't have done shit.

Not only do they make large cuts, but by their very nature of being toothed with an aggressive bite they make jagged messy wounds. They have a high risk of infection, and are slow to heal. One of my coworkers was using his saw on some low brush and nicked the top of his ankle right through his work boot. He was lucky it only damaged a tendon that humans don't need, he "only" needed 23 stitches.

Be smart. Be careful. And you'll be fine.

Use the proper amount of caution and attention when working wit

Those chaps may not 100% stop an injury but I have seen them change a situation that could easily have ended in amputation to a painful but manageable wound. You can never know if there is some nail in what you are cutting or some hard knot of wood and kick back can happen so fast it is hard to prevent. So when using power equipment make sure to always wear the correct safety equipment for the tool being used.

Storm to cat 5 in 24 hours. Impressive Maria. Still predicted currently to miss the US but she is full of surprises.

I get all of that. I hear it all daily.

Well, now they are letting anyone in (but posting deputies at the entries of neighborhoods, like mine). So I guess we'll see how it goes.

With how this year is going I don't put it past trying to take another swipe at Miami/Keys/East Coast - feeling around here from old locals seems to mirror the 2004 season I think it was when we got 4 that effected Merritt Island in a single year.

All based on Jose right now. If Jose breaks apart or scoots away rapid speed then we'll see a track change. If not see ya Maria, you have to go back.
I wouldn't rule out another storm by the end of October though.

Puerto Rico will be fairly screwed up if this thing crosses mid/southern side. If it goes more north, not as much. We'll know in a day how bad they got it, but right now they'll get it much worse than with Irma.
You would think they would borrow/make a deal after these occur to build up the island with better housing/concrete structures. Yes it would cost a fuckton but it beats sending billions in aid every time it rains or the wind blows.
I got some metal lobsters hand painted from there and Haiti and some other cool crafty type items. It isn't like they can't export anything. They could easily become the world supplier of kitchen counter art shit and rugs. Jobs jobs jobs!

A hit up the spine of PR will be pretty crushing. Besides the usual crap, the mudslides and downstream flooding will be a killer.

Does seem very worrying, a PR friend has a brother still out there and she sounds terrified for him. Complications from Irma kept their wealthy mother from hearing about it to help him GTFO until too late from what she told us last night.

Sounds like dominica got wrecked as this looks like it came ashore pretty close to the eye at cat 5. The virgin islands are also in some serious danger as they are already so wrecked even a swipe of this will send all the debris flying around causing god knows what extra damage to people and property. With all of these hurricanes you should see cooler water being pulled up to the surface but it looks like either that is not happening or there just is no cooler water to pull up so its going to be an ugly month or so at the rate we are going for storm generation.

Mexican name storms can't make it past Trump's wall. Jose might follow it far enough north to get around it though. Puerto rico is fucked, no one ever talked about trying to stop immigration there.

Florida is lucky maria wasn't named muhammed.

Given how scoured some of the islands have gotten with irma and now this I can only imagine tourism is going to take a huge hit for years to come to those destinations. I hope for the locals the recovery is faster than I am afraid it will be.

Most of that won't be a concern. Tiki bars, lawn chairs and stuff is built in days. Fancy hotels have their own international crews they will send in bypassing the long lines and wait time for contractors so that is weeks or in severe damage months. It is the residents who will be fucked up for 1-2 years rebuilding all that infrastructure. They will only be starting to rebuild when the tourism areas are already back to fully running.

If the Islanders are smart enough, they'd tweet out that island disaster porn is the next big thing. You'd see tons of sjws and dumb lib s taking selfies next to an overturned tiki bar.
