What I am interested in seeing is if this new one is "new viewers ready" - and, while I know this may seem odd - I hope it is not.

The first one is not some huge complex mystical mystery with loops and twists - it was a fairly straight forward sci-fi cop on a mission - that was surrounded by, however a deep and vibrant world and that is what people want more of. So IMO to actually get "that" we have to not spend 30-ish min rehashing "the world" that was "naturally" exposed to the audience in the first movie or the world just seems cheaper by that - the entire first movie is world building (be it intentional or not) and to try and "play catch-up" for those that did not see it in the 2nd generally kills it.

He went into that on the show as well. I'll just link it to start at the Blade Runner segment if you're interested.

Well I expect this means Denis Villeneuve will probably be able to do whatever he wants for the rest of his career now. He is doing Dune after this too.

Well that's good to hear, I had high expectation for this. It's been one of my favorite movie since I saw the original in theater in 82 as a kid. I have enjoyed all versions, although my favorite interpretation has been the Director's Cut...or the Final Cut although I haven't seen that one anywhere near as often as I've seen the Director's Cut which is the version I've seen the most.

Looking forward to it.

I think getting handed the keys to both Blade Runner and Dune is Villeneuve putting the first two punches in his carte blanche card following the critical successes of Prisoners, Sicario, and Arrival. I know he talked about wanting to do Dune long before he was ever announced as it's director.

Lynch's Dune was/is one of my favorite movies from my childhood =| It was substantially more entertaining than that Sci-Fi channel nonsense a decade or so ago.

Lynch's Dune was terrible. Even Lynch disowned it.

Not a 100% book adaptation, but it was certainly entertaining as hell.

I enjoyed Dune, but I like most of Lynch's movies. I haven't read the books which probably helps, a large portion of the complaints about the movie seem to be that it isn't really related to the content from the novels.

Got the limited edition sci-fi collection hard copy with the gilded gold, lettering, limited forward etc. Which reminds me I need to secure my book collections.

I can appreciate all the nostalgia re: the original Dune movie-- but Villenueve is about to erase it.

Talked my lady into seeing a double feature, Blade Runner - Final Cut, followed by this. Leaving work early on Thursday and driving to Vegas. 5 hours in the theater. She's never seen the original. Fingers crossed she likes it haha.

This is a really, really, really terrible idea and you will owe your wife like a dozen rom-com movie night dates if you do this. Most women do NOT like the first blade runner movie, its super slow and Deckard is a bit rapey towards everyone.

instead AMC theaters (@ Town Square, 215/15) is doing Rocky Horror Picture Show on fri, sat, and sun at like 7pm and 10pm (?), go see that and then maybe see blade runner 2049 afterwards.
