Finished e1 and 2 --- not convinced on the main char... ending was rough.

I liked the main klingon ship, it looked klingon, the rest looked...there...

Like many stated, it feels movie. It looks movie, it's very - very VERY well produced. I don't know if they are going to be able to get the "people" centric vibe all other trek TV had... and the next episodes are just going to have to re-build characters again... I liked the science guy and the "oh shit" 24/7 looking ginger

Got around to watching the 2nd episode, I think they did a good job of laying the details that the Klingons were there to start a war with the Federation no matter what happened but also highlighted how retarded MF is in every action and she makes the perfect scapegoat for "starting the war".

I almost feel like one of the writers is trying to hide a subtext in the midst of it all, see what happens when you let Vulcans mess with a human's nature / feels? You have a woman who gets mindfucked (almost literally) as a childhood victim and the rest of the sane humans do their best to educate and prepare her for a reasonable career but in the end she mutinies and fucks everything up with her retarded ass principles which go against everything that free human civilization stands for.

The asian captian was good but the American inventor kept being dumb.

The klingons where there to start a fight, the entire point was for the dude to re-unify the empire that has been scattered for 100 years.

Spoiler - 2 lazy for tags

the federation either shot first and started the war by being aggressors or they let the klingons shoot first (and they did)

the vulcan "hello" was not applicable - again, the vulcans found klingons, klingons blew up the vulcans, the vulcans then found more klingons and blew them the fuck up and said "sup bitches?" in their language and it worked-- it was not an applicable situation to where they stood there... or if it was, they were the "first" meeting and needed to get blown up so the federation can then hit back and say "okay, lets stop this shit"

they tried to do that with the europa showing up and whatnot but it did not really fully go over that way- if that ship showed up, saved them THEN blew the fuk outta klingons some more THEN said "sup, lets stop this shit"

still do not like the visual of the new klingons - wife calls them space orcs from LOTR

Finally got around to watching both episodes..

Great special effects and set design, but..

Asian female captain: Ok no problem.
“Tough and logical” female black first officer: Ok now you’re pushing it..
Artsy colorful Klingons that want to start a war because they fear race mixing and being culturally genocided by humans, Vulcans, tellerians, etc. this despite the fact that they haven’t encountered humans in 100 years: Seriously fuck off with your modern day political allegory bullshit.

Oh yeah, and the “don’t kill the Klingon chief because we’ll just martyr him”. Remember guise, “when you kill your enemies, they win”.

Not to nitpick to much, but if you remember back to alot of the conversations and themes running through DS9, the Klingon's fears are pretty fucking apt, without in my mind being some allegory for white nationalism etc, (i accept that is probably why they choose this) but it does fit within the themes set before. The Federation is a Space CaliforYork. Cultural distinction absolutely is washed away in the "we come in peace join us" Smarm Borg.

IMHO it made sense in the DS9 timeline because the context was organic, unpacked, and made sense. It also wasn't part of the show's main plotline.

They could have done it in a way that actually made sense and was a bit more subtle. Having the beginning and the end of the Klingon's reasoning being "We no race mix" and "Klingons are pure" with no supporting history as to *why* they feel this way, then throw in the fact that they haven't even seen a human in 100 years makes literally no sense. Maybe they will unpack it more in future episodes, but for now it just comes off as a weak political jab.

Even though I have yet to see it because lol CBS streaming, from all the clips, the RLM review, etc. it seems like this is grimdark movie Trek. Orville looks way more like real Trek.

I don't know what they were thinking besides "hey fuck our current fan base, let's make a new one!

Just torrent it bro, that’s what I did. So far it’s worth watching even with the Political bullshit.

EP 3 will show us if this thing has legs or hell even nubs..

Trek is about the crew... and because we don't have forever to tell the story, it's about the "bridge" crew and COs - like bones and scotty..

So... all the crew we got to know in this pilot - done, but one...

I mean even if it was good, how the hell is it going to survive only on CBS streaming?

If everyone on the planet goes full retard and wants to pay CBS twice every month? I don't know. They are like a tranny, cutting their balls off to spite their dick. And a 50% chance they take themselves out with this shit.

CBS's target really isn't that high
4 mill subs by the end of the year for combined cbs streaming and showtime
and 8 mill by 2020
as far as i know they have not released any numbers other that they are on target.

Netflicks reportedly paid 75% of the shows cost (estimated $8mill per esp)

Yeah I was trying to not even pirate this because I was just sure it was going to be cancelled but I am hearing that it is basically paid for without any effort from CBS because of the Netflix deal .... so I am going to download it begrudgingly.
