Where do you live? The pork belly you're talking about is pretty easy to find in SF.
pork belly is pretty fucking common all around the bay area. like south city/daily city, union city and as far out as concord.

Maybe I should change "North America" to "Canada".

I have to go to an asian grocery to even buy it.

They love them some Catholicism.

I like how the article is in English and the quotes are in Cebuano(I think?). =\

Oh that's what that marinated pork was! TOSINO!

There was a fusion filipino place in brooklyn that was kinda meh but they had Tosino tacos that were fucking awesome. For the longest time I kept asking around what it was called... I thought it was like al-pastor but it's really something different. It's not really chinese barbecue pork either, it's pretty unique.

Tocino is pretty awesome; but you would be surprised how different it tastes depending on the region. Sometimes its crunchy and sweet, other times its soft and tangy. Its similar to Longanisa (a type of sausage) in that regard . Regional differences and preferences impact what ingredients go into it.

I was born here and always wanted to go back... Thinking about pocketing ~$2,500 and going out for 2 weeks and saying fuck it.

Tocino is awesome. I make home made batches a few times a year and freeze portions for breakfast.

So, headed to Malapascua Island with a few friends next month for a big dive trip. I will probably spend a few days in Cebu at the end of the trip.

Suggestions / advice? (Never been to the Philippines)

I haven't been to the Philippines in like 30 years. I still have nightmares about Manila traffic.

Only place worse is mainland China. Pretty sure chinese drivers ed teach them the car wont move unless you honk the horn at the same time.

I wanted so bad to ride in a Jeepney but never got around to it.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that fun

Ah, Manila, the most racist and corrupt place I've ever visited, the ony place more racist and corrupt than Tijuana.

Only good things are the diving, the lechon, and the fruit. Eat the durian, its delicious and unique but smells like the most vile garbage youve ever smelled.

If your cab driver refuses to start his meter get out of the cab immediately, its the rip of the white boy scam.

Best advice -- dont leave the airport in Manila, only use Manila as a hub to fly through to the good islands.
