I still haven't watched the 2nd half of the first season. The first few episodes were so underwhelming, that I just couldn't sit through more.

Celebrity Brain Crash could stand to be cut from each episode. Other than that, I enjoyed the 1st season.

Pretty harsh comment. The jet car had a front tire failure (caught on film from onboard camera), which basically shredded itself at speed sending the car out of control. Nothing Hammond did wrong. The article linked above says this recent crash is under investigation and the cause is unknown. Calm your tits judgey mcjudgerson.
i didnt say the crash was his fault as i wasnt even there, but what i said is true.

This is back for anyone that missed it, and it seems like they listened to some feedback. Celeb Brain Crash is replaced with a more Star in a R.P.C. type of segment, and the first one has David Hasselhoff. The American is gone, there were some YouTube videos about trying out replacements, but nothing in the first ep. so far. Its also back to a permanent studio in England, so there's no sorta pander-to-the-locals segment either.

They road trip some supercars through beautiful Switzerland, they give each other some shit, Hammond crashes - feels much more like good old Top Gear. All its missing is the ridiculous points board and a "bombshell" line at the end.

Yeah, definitely feels more like good ol' Top Gear now. Good start to the new season; god damn I don't know for sure if that overhyping they gave Hammond before his crash lap actually happened before or if they just filmed and added that in after for effect, but if it really was before hahahahahaha my fucking god.

Dang I was really hoping Amazon had some footage of the Hammond crash that they'd been holding on to until now. Nope, turns out those YouTube videos we all saw months ago were it.

Hahaha, they had good reasoning for that to be honest, the moron wrecked after he crossed the finish line so the camera crew had already moved away from those spots.

Speaking of the Hammond crash, holy fuckballs those electric cars are insane in a drag race. Zero spin up/lag, it's instantaneous full power to each wheel.

Yep.. you been living under a rock for the last few years? :)

Theres been tons of videos of tesla drivers crushing drag strips and reaction videos of passengers in them when they do their 0-60 in 3 seconds.

Its part of why tesla, and electric cars, are so exciting. There is no performance edge for gas cars. Its only about ease of refill vs recharging now.

I wonder if jeremy has finally softened on his electric car stance. Havent seen the episode yet if he says something there.

Nah I'm well aware of their capabilities, just making a 700+ HP v12 Lambo look slow is something else. Even Clarkson couldn't shit talk it anymore after that. Like you said, the only real issue for electric right now is range and recharge time.

much better than last season. the car challenge was lame because Hoff drives like an old man and this hobbit looking dude is still relatively young, it looked like he had an even better lap time than was posted. i guess they didnt want it to look too lopsided of a vistory. that electric supercar is crazy fast, but crazy dangerous. hamster is extremely lucky he didnt cook with the rest of the car. i'm sure that car company wasnt too thrilled about how it made them look.

I'm pretty sure in either the last season of Top Gear, or first episode of this, he basically said "this is the future."

It wasnt Top Gear. He did an interview after being fired, while Grand Tour was being filmed where he explained it further.

He was saying his issue with electric (he preferred research into hydrogen fuel cells) is that most countries are having power issues already. California and their brown outs, for example. That the power being generated to recharge the car is still largely dependeny on fossil fuels. Thats why he wanted the car industry to get more into hydrogen. Plus, the infrastructure/refuel process is similar and its more like combustion engines.

Once i heard WHY he had that POV, i understood better his hate for electrics.
I think, though, he was slightly wrong, especially regarding Tesla. While i agree hydrogen would have been worthwhile, tesla's work into improving solar is to help combat our power problems as well.

Yup, I know a guy living in Hawaii that has the Tesla home batteries and solar deal and says it's awesome. The initial front loaded costs though are a big barrier to entry for most people still. He also is on the list for a Tesla Roadster when that finally comes out in a year or 2. I might have to make the trip out when he gets it.....

This season was really good, felt like the old show which was what everyone was clambering for in the first place. I enjoyed the first season, but couldn't fecking stand the American driver

Where can he get that above 55 without going into the ocean or volcano?

Haha, he lives around Kailua on the big island - the irony of all of this is he made his money in the oil business, and he's now the "greenest" kombucha loving faglord I know....

the one thing that lost me on this recent episode - Hammond called that car he was in the "world's first electric supercar". Why do I feel like this is the 4th or 5th car they've had on the show that's been referred to as the "world's first electric supercar"?

Because it is and I am pretty sure they never had another all electric "supercar" on before.

You might be thinking of when they had the LaFerrari (a hybrid) on the show.

I think in the past they were talking about hybrid supercars or concept electric super cars. Judging by it's short range and propensity to explode for days, it may be the only pure electric supercar ever made.
