I'm laughing at you. Smith puts himself in that position, it's clearly shoulder to shoulder and a complete nothing burger if Smith doesn't purposely turn at the last second trying to draw a call and the guy hitting him isn't named Wilson. Not a soul even thinking that play was anything except Rags fans desperate for something to hold up and continue the narrative. Hard, clean hit.

He didn't really "undress" McD. I mean, when he suddenly pulls a slick toe drag to get around a D man of McD's quality call me, but I might be dead of shock. People DO however underestimate his straight line speed.

No point in arguing, he can pull his skate off and start slicing refs Happy Gilmour style and you would still defend him. And I don't blame you, I would too if he was on my fav team. Your take on that hit is Trump levels of made up nonsense though. Literally everything you wrote plainly contradicts everything obviously visable in that clip I posted.

If he was trying to draw a penalty he wouldn't of jumped up instantly and went after him. Just saying, it's crazy to think anyone would risk brain injury for a call.

If this were true, the league wouldn't have had to purposely inform players to stop doing it, and that it wouldn't be called. It's clearly shoulder to shoulder even after he turns at the last second. Watch the slow mo in the clip I called, you can clearly see him notice Wilson coming and try to turn his back. Guys do it all the time. It's absolutely stupid, I agree. Literally everything I wrote is exactly what happened.

Play didn't happen in slow motion, it happened in a split second. You're reaching man...

I think what I find irritating about your blind homerism is the denial. The "narrative" isn't exclusive to the Rangers, it's league wide. Wilson is a big power foward who isn't afraid to go out and hurt people. Everyone who follows the sport knows this, why do you act like he isn't? It's odd man. The same reasons people hate him are the reasons everyone wishes he played for their team. Ranger fans weren't out there defending Avery and his actions, they owned it and thumbed there noses when other teams' fans complained.

Exactly, it did happen split second. He sees him and turns at the last second, Wilson's already gliding in for the hit. He doesn't go high, he still manages to go shoulder to shoulder. When Wilson has actual bad hits, you have Caps fans wishing he'd quit that shit and just play hard, clean hockey like he can. Dude literally has 3 goals and 4 assists and is a +6 this week in 3 games on the top line.

He's certainly had his share of questionable hits, but the "narrative" IS league wide...and far too often, it's Tom Wilson is just a big, powerful dude, and every hit suddenly becomes dirty b/c too much man. There's a few on Blueshirt Banter who REEEE'd about this hit, and one guy with common sense pointing out that Smith turns too late for Wilson to react/stop the hit, and that if it was any other guy not named Wilson, probably nothing would be said about it at all (although I think if it was Ovechkin, you'd hear something too). That's just far too logical though. It's a hard hit, but it's not high, and it wouldn't look like anything if Smith isn't turning at the last second.

I agree with you absolutely that a lot of teams have a guy like this where you hate him if he's on an opposing team, love him if he's on yours. Matt Martin comes to mind. Don't compare Avery to Wilson though...Avery is of the Cooke breed, where they're not out there trying to land hard, clean hits that maybe are borderline. They do the underhanded dirty shit behind the play. Guys like Letang, and Hornqvist on the Pens fit this model, and even Crosby when he's in one of those moods. The big hitters like Martin/Wilson/etc are guys who aren't out there looking to intentionally injure people. They want them to hurt from the checks, but they want them to be legal hits. Now you throw that many hard hits right on the edge, you're going to have some bad ones, absolutely...but every big hit by him b/c he's big as fuck doesn't make it dirty.

We have something more important to talk about though. I just saw Mike Babcock smile during this pregame of Leafs/Pens. Like full on grin.

Lot of good hockey on tonight. Go Leafs.

He must have been feeling good about the team and they didnt let him down in the first period. Cant say it very often this year but the Leafs had a good early game.

Second half of a back to back tonight. Pittsburgh in game 1 and Edmonton in game 2. Leafs will likely have their backup, Curtis Mcelhinney, in net. Why hes still our back up when we have 2 of the top 5 goaltenders in the AHL who knows. I hope Picard or Sparks gets called up at some point and given another chance in the NHL. Lots of opportunity for it this week as were playing 5 games in 7 days.

So Karlsson tells Ottawa management he isn't going to give them a hometown discount after next year when his contract is up...and all of a sudden they're asking which teams would not be on his no trade list. I'm sure it's just procedure to do so, but even the idea of them trading him instead of trying to keep him is nuts.

Karlsson actually just bought a new house a few blocks away from me. I wouldnt except him to be moving. Ottawa asked all the players with no trade clauses for a list of teams they move to. They did this last time they didnt have a great season too.

Just heard rumor their GM was pissed when he publicly stated he wasn't giving discount.

I heard that too but I cant imagine them moving Karlsson.

Still interesting they're putting out the call like that. Just funny because so far they got the shit end of the deal in the Duchene trade.

Of all the games to start Pavelec, our dipshit coach has to pick tonight with big Metro pts on the line.... fuuuuck. Also completely scrambled literally every line to "send his players a message". Except of course the struggling top D pair which needs it the most. Gratz on the easy points Merrith, this game has all the potential to be a trainwreck.

Ughh... ummm... the ol' "reverse jinx".... works like a charm....

Both goaltenders were solid.

And pretty sure every Metro team got at least one point tonight. This is getting absurd.

Every team did. Weird game. No idea why Kuznetsov didn't go out there after Oshie in the shootout like he normally does. Oh well, Carlson blew it by not finishing that wraparound, best chance of the OT/game.

This thread's title held up pretty well so far.
