Wife took my debit card for something and forgot to return it (and I forgot too). Went to sonic at 645 and ordered food and realized I only had a $5 bill in my pocket so could only get her ice cream. They closed at 700 so my new years Eve had no food for me. I made pigs in a blanket so it was alright I guess, but I craved that blast later.

Did you at least get sex for that sacrifice?

DQs in my corner of Michigan are always good, some don't even close for the winter, but the trade-off is it takes like five minutes to get your food in the drive thru even if you're the only customer.

Picked up a bag of these bad boys the other day:

Pretty good. Much more maple flavor than bacon, but even the maple flavor was fairly subdued.

Also picked up a bag of:

Kettle-Brand-Krinkle-Cut-Potato-Chips-Spicy-Queso.jpg

Also good. Only very slightly spicy, and it didn't really start to be noticeable until I was nearly through with the bag. Definitely a taste of queso (velvetta + rotel) I love the crinkle cut though. I wish more of these kettle chips were crinkle cut. The maple bacon were regular cut.

So this is Austin's most popular hipster burger chain. My coworkers go here constantly... While tasty it is way overpriced like most hipster shit is. I managed to avoid going today.

What's with the weird prices at that place? 14.29? 16.19? 15.89? They're oddly specific.

I'm going to guess that DQ is subject to the Wendy's Location Algorithm as well, because the one that used to be near work was absolute shit for burgers. Like, you guys talk about that Flamethrower as if it were close to god-tier, and the two I had years ago (different visits) were THE shittiest burgers I've ever had. Like, imagine grade school cafeteria burgers, and then make them even shittier.

On top of that, on multiple occasions I sat in their drive-thru line in the evening for well over half an hour, when the dining room was closed. Their drive-thru service was so incredibly slow that they actually posted a sign in their window eventually that said they "make every order fresh when you get to the window, because we value quality over quantity" or some bullshit. I'm pretty sure it was just because the fucking punjabis were too cheap to hire a third employee to work the evening shift. One time I literally sat behind 5 cars for over an hour, with no way to escape. Of course they didn't offer a discount, or free, or even an apology.

I still went there during lunch once a month or so because their chicken strip basket with texas toast and fries was really fucking good. And they paid more employees during lunch I guess, so it only took like 15 minutes to get your food in the dining room. But if I craved ice cream at night (before 10pm when they closed), I had to take that gamble of potentially waiting fucking forever for it.

Surprisingly, they closed down several years ago. As did the 4 others in town owned by the same guy. The note on the door even said, on January 1st no less, that the franchisee had stopped paying rent to DQ and simply abandoned them all without any notice. Even the employees (other than family members I assume) had no warning. Despite the shitty service, damn I miss having that option for lunch and ice cream. I'm gonna have to find one that does more than ice cream and try that Flamethrower, but it's likely so far away that I'd pass by like 100 solid places before I got to it.

The thing with DQ is there used to be a regular DQ which just served all the ice cream stuff and then there was a DQ Brazier which was set up with the full kitchens. When all DQ's had to move to add hot food, those little places had less room for the proper equipment. Those are usually the worst DQ's to get burgers and shit from.

Maybe that's a state by state thing but there are plenty of DQs here that only serve ice cream.

Dunno. Could be. All the ice cream only stores that were around when I was younger are all now serving everything as well as the Orange Julius stuff.
