Glad to see Unreal Tourney getting so much love here. My mounting indifference to the FPS genre coincides perfectly with the decline of the arena shooter.

I was nasty with the shock rifle (as was any good player) but my favorite weapon was the translocator, both for mobility and fragging.

Hell yes. I'm glad someone mentioned this. My friends and brother used to do 2v2 LAN matches and those awesome 1-hit railgun kills used to piss everyone off so much. It was the AWP before the AWP.

I feel on the whole Counter-Strike had the best overall gun feel of any game. It was almost entirely defined by it's gun feel. Deagle and AWP are almost synonymous with video game games. Then you move down the line to weapons like the AK which felt amazing, M4A1 which felt amazing. Even the Scout, MP5, Aug ... they all felt great. The sounds were also amazing. To this day I think anyone who put some serious hours into CS get super nostalgic hearing the AWP or AK weapon sound.

The AWP can eat a dick, one shot kill with zero scope sway. The most noob gun on the planet and people praise it, I never could play on a server with it.

I love the props to Perfect Dark. Such a good fps. My fav is 1 hit kill mode with pistols only and then next game 1 hit kills with automatics.

Proxy mines and laptop guns. How about the assault rifle (dragon I think?) that turned into a proxy mine that looked like an assault rifle? Akimbo scoped silenced pistols? That x-ray gun that shot thru walls and made me lose friends?

Me and this motherfucker are doing Co-op on Halo 3 and I notice the enemies getting harder and harder, I'm calling out enemies and getting no responses. I finally look at the map and see he's way the fuck back there. So I run back to see wtf he's up to, I roll up on him tea-bagging one of those gorilla dudes and it's head is bouncing off his crotch and into the wall.

Roxon busts out laughing, says he's been doing it for 10 mins waiting for me to notice lol. Then he proceeds to kill me with the Adler Axe over and over again, dick.

I'm also going to make a mention of the rocket launcher in Doom. I don't actually know if it was the first of it's kind but I remember as a kid I was amazed that if you shot the missile and strafed fast enough it would show a side-angled model of the rocket.

Back in the 90s, we used to play Duke Nukem on the N64 with the 4 player split screen. The funniest shit to me ever was launching a heat seeker at one of my buddies and watching them run like a fool while my screen showed the missile hunting them down and then the screen goes red when they die in a blood curdling scream. They would get so pissed at me laughing at them too, lol. Granted I'm easily amused, but that weapon sure stands out in my memory.

Honorable mention to the Arcanite Reaper in WOW. In early vanilla WoW before everyone was kitted out in raid epics and PVP reward gear, the Reaper wielded by a Tauren (so it was extra big) struck fear in all those who encountered it.

I might catch some hate, but there was something oddly satisfying thinking back to it.. but the disc in Ricochet, that free HL mod that was in the cs1.5 custom game section? Getting a group of friends together, and trying to decapitate each other. It was such a shit game, but all too good at the sametime. Honorable mention at best in my book.

Speaking of special rules servers ZyyzYzzy ZyyzYzzy . Did you ever play on a server where Call of Duty II had rifles only going on? Germans only had K98 and Allies only had Garands?

Those servers really taught me just how superior he Garand must have been to the German rifle in WWII.

Yes. Also, finishing a clip (and it is actually a clip!) is still my favorite sound in any video game.

Day of Defeat had it tuned a bit shittily. Because the Garand was actually superior they toned down the fire rate so it was useless and nobody used it unless the server roles forced you to. On the other side the German K98 in that game was essentially a one shot kill gun that I loved using.

Day of Defeat was the first really good WWII multiplayer game that had all those cool maps created out of scenes from Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan.
