2017 was also the year that the very institutions Bitcoin originally sought to dismantle have begun to co-opt it for profit

So in other words, they decided to-- instead of destroy it-- began to simply buy it like everybody else on a level playing field, which encourages them to lobby in favor of it instead of against it; meanwhile bitcoin maintains its decentralized and open nature. Sounds like great news to me.

If people want to stupidly throw their money away buying shicoins like it's a casino, that's their business. I'd rather the feds issue PSAs instead of regulate the actual innovative coins to death, but we all know that won't happen.

Massive losses in the crypto space this morning, probably a pretty good time to buy in.

I've been day trading GBTC lately. The fact that BTC isn't part of a market and has no traditional closing or opening prices makes targeting GBTC, which is traded on the normal market, an interesting prospect.

Everything is still crashing pretty hard. It looked like it was starting to comeback a bit, and it is going down again.

Probably a lot of panic selling from people that jumped in the last few months or big time traders shorting the futures.

It's funny that the second it went under $10k, it bounced back up almost immediately. Obviously people had it set and ready to go to purchase when it went under 10k

2nd day of decline, bitcoin actually holding up the best, down 19% right now whereas Eth/Litecoin are down over 25%.

All the regulation fears are unfounded imo and it might take some months+ but it'll rebound. I'm looking for a time to buy in more, just kinda waiting for the freefall to level out somewhere. Could be 9k, could be 5k. I'm still bullish by end of 2018 BTC should look pretty good.

If you're a believer in the tech then the dips don't make sense. Bitcoin has seen many many pullbacks already, going as far back when it hit 1k for the first time and then dropped to 200.

If regulations do somehow pass, I think it could only help, it might actually stabilize the price, which is drastically needed for this to be taken even more seriously.

The level of delusion within the Cryptocoin community is hilarious. Happy I pulled out when it was near its peak.

The prior peak (2013?) was due to market manipulation by a small set of users. I would not be surprised if we come to discover there was manipulation with the current bubble as well. If anything the cryptocoin community has been proven to be a pile of crooks, gamblers and drug dealers.

There is 100% manipulation.... there's manipulation in most markets. Regulations help some. I have been sticking to mostly BTC because at this point I feel it's more widespread, manipulation is lessening. I never got into the altcoins, even though it was only a couple weeks ago you could have made a killing, XRP is under $1.00 now, for example. Manipulation in Altcoins is very widespread and the "tech" is all a scam imo. It's technology rather than currency... technology that is likely not going anywhere. BTC acts like a currency foremost.

If you're a believer in the tech then the dips don't make sense.

It's the peaks that don't make sense The price has nothing to do with the actual value of the tech, it's a classic speculative bubble.

Buffett on cryptocurrencies: 'I can say almost with certainty that they will come to a bad ending'

But of course the most successful investor in the history of the world doesn't know what's going on. He's old and dumb according to all the bitcoin geniuses who lucked out on one long shot and then weren't smart enough to get out when they should have and are now fixated on the number that was in their theoretical bank account for about 5 minutes last December and are going to keep dreaming of that until they have nothing left.

I don't discredit Buffett but I also wouldn't treat a "cryptocurrency" the same as a company's stock.

Again, I stay away from the white-paper altcoins that are trying to create solutions to problems that don't exist.

But just talking about BTC, which is an actual currency, as you can purchase things with it, and it's used as a basis currency for the other altcoins even, if you truly believe in the core tech, it only makes sense the price will rise.

Reason is due to the hard-coded max limit of coins that will ever exist and the fact there will be coins "lost", it can only ever "climb" in value.

Right now coins are still being released into the system.. until 2022 or something, but the majority are here, and dividing BTC among 7billion inhabitants (if BTC ever becomes a "standard") means it will be a very valuable asset.
