A lot of people thought there'd be a trailer out for this already so baseless speculation time kids! Custom crafted for those who really didn't like TLJ, plugged the coordinates to the Disney Hate homeworld into the navicomputer, and made the jump.

Well, almost fully baseless. There's a small shred of some rumor in there but not much. Here we go ...

Disney execs of course had seen TLJ and had some inkling that at least a part of the fan base might not like it, what with the passing of yet another of the old icons. For that reason they didn't want to attach the debut trailer for Solo to the movie. Better to let some of those with an initial negative reaction have a little time to come around and not have that reaction joined to the hip of your attempt to sell them on your next offering. Nothing really lost in waiting a couple of weeks to let things shake out and see the lay of the land before tossing it out there.

Well that reaction ended up being a little more robust than they anticipated. At least louder. So now that couple of weeks will end up being a month as they decide to toss some of that TLJ money over to NBC and air the trailer during the Super Bowl.

Let's drag some of the schedule shuffling going on over at Fox into the mix. The word is starting to make the rounds in Hollywood that Solo has got problems. Problems of the "it ain't very good" variety. The slate stackers at Fox decided they'd rather have a weak Solo movie attempting to eat into Deadpool 2's second week numbers rather than watch Incredibles 2 fueled by all of the pent up demand for the sequel gobbling them up. So they slide it in front of Solo assuming that Infinity War is probably going to be heavily front loaded by all of the same sort of fans they want showing up their opening week, so they will have already seen it by then.
Interesting. If they feel it's going to suck though, would they really want to run a Super Bowl ad for it? I guess they want as many people to see it as possible, regardless of how bad it is. Seems like it could backfire though, especially if fans don't take kindly to the trailer.

Well Disney might not feel like it sucks. They might feel it's more of a middle caliber movie. They could also be looking at it more from the perspective of how much trouble it's had in production and the news that generated combined with the recent unrest over TLJ and be concerned about introducing a new actor playing Han Solo in the midst of all of that to a fan base that was somewhat unenthusiastic for a Solo movie to begin with. And even if the movie isn't all that great , good trailers for bad movies get made all the time. Being able to wrap one in the Star Wars visuals and music makes it all the easier.

But dropping it during the Super Bowl would be an unusual move for them. More often than not they drop them at seemingly random times when nothing is going on rather than during major events. That way the chatter can dominate the social media cycle for a day or so. An enthusiastic fan base is the engine for that kind of promotion though. If they're thinking the gas tank is a little low at the moment they might see a big event as a better means of promoting to the more general audience types. But it really could get lost in the shuffle during the SB. Maybe the playoff games instead where it will still get a decent amount of exposure but have a better chance of standing out.

Superbowl and final trailer of the first batch when Black Panther releases in theaters. Huge audiences for very different reasons...and they've got the money to spend. A large portion of SW fans in the universe have little idea this movie is even happening. Minds will be blown just from a trailer.

I agree the potential is great. Also casuals will be mixed alongside potential TLJ critics, and casuals will enforce a greater mood in the room. "Wow another piece of shit movie" isn't a socially acceptable reaction, unless you're home alone or in a basement-- where you can act like a bitter 15 year old shitlord.

As the-Royal-we-need suggested, they were wise to distance this movie from the TLJ hatewagon, which gained more traction than people thought it would. The Superbowl also conveys a certain amount of social countenance (considering the levity of the event itself) against any potential backlash.

Well like I said, it's baseless speculation on my part. Just taking a lot of probably unrelated particulars and sewing them together a non-hyperbolic, glass-half-empty kinda way. It is interesting that we already have a full Infinity War trailer and an Incredibles 2 teaser but not so much as a single officially released picture for Solo, which is sandwiched dead in the middle between them . Just a logo and a release date.

Preview hit in Germany. I pretty much called it, as did some others here.

“Looks like this could be the `fan-service-movie` some of the older Star Wars fans wanted from Episode VIII ;-),” Frick added.

All but confirms Vaderification as well as massive amounts of fan fare.

I'm guessing the second round of re-shoots that started this month involve many TLJ-conscious overhauls. We aren't talking about re-shooting some action scenes here, or "getting a few angles that were missed" in Rogue One. The fact is, they needed this to hit after TLJ and you can bet the second round of re-shoots was taking into account the TLJ backlash regardless of the planned setups and planned shoots they had already had prepared.

Solo was a movie made for the fans-- first and foremost. I'm estimating it will hit as hard as Rogue One box-office wise.

THIS IS GONNA ROCK!

Well the current reshoots are supposed to be just pick-ups, which are just better angles and transitional shots. The R1 reshoots were full blown restructuring of the movie and reworking of some of the characters (Jyn, Cassian, Saw, and Bodhie Rook), though they likely incorporated the pick-ups for the parts they were keeping into those at the same time. They also added the closing Vader scene to make up for the amount of his stuff on the Death Star they had cut out which I personally think had more to do with how good they felt about CGI Tarkin than being unhappy with those scenes. They don't really have time to do anything for Solo on that scale. They're only lasting 3 weeks and they probably won't even shoot for that whole time period. That's likely just the window they needed to be able to get everyone back on set amidst any other projects they're working on. As for the timing of it, Howard tweeted out when he went to see TLJ that he was still in the process of editing.

I think they probably had plenty of fan service planned for this one from the beginning. The very premise of a young Han Solo movie is essentially fan service.

I wonder if this movie will do better than the Blair Witch remake in China?

Wow, you've really never said a movie or tv show looked like a piece of shit to your friends? I honestly don't know what world you live in where you've never been around salty language thrown towards a piece of art/media. Yes, IRL.

I mean, you've heard of the Transformers movies, right?

Rumor mill in full swing for a trailer this week. I'm still sticking with SuperBowl as a solid bet but seems to be good intel for Wednesday/Thursday this week. And no BP, reshoots are done. It was minor pickups, nothing too major.

They could leak the whole movie for all I care. I won't be seeing it until a few weeks after opening. And thank god for moviepass because i'd be hesitant to pay for it.

I have a feeling this movie will be good enough for ppl to be duped into spending piles of cash on ep9. And to forgive Disney for that abortion they went to see three times like some kidnapping victim with stockholm syndrome.
