Maze Runner: The Death Cure. bored today afternoon and alone in the house so picked the dolby screen, better than i expected 5/10.

Its pretty much a mish mash of Last of Us, Walking Dead, and every other post apocalyptic story done in the most nonsensical way imaginable. The actors are all absolutely awful, kinda surprising with people like Littlefinger, Gus from Breaking Bad, and even my boy Walt Goggins but 90% of the focus is on the teenage (20-something) actors who are all bad. All the post apocalyptic stuff was fun to watch, needed way more of that and less of teen angst. I didn't see the previous two movies but it didn't seem to matter at all other than not caring about the relationships or why everyone loves this random korean guy, he must suck dick really good or something.

Ghost in the Shell 8/10 - looks great, not constant action like most movies today. Shocked this didn't get better reviews, personally I'm of the fuck anime camp so have no attachment to the original.

Hostiles - 8.5/10. Really glad I saw it in theaters. Quiet, taciturn movie in the style of great westerns that doesn't try to force a narrative, just lets a simply story unfold. Fascinating time period too, set in 1892 at pretty much the very end of the western era. Starts out with a pretty brutal scene (I wouldn't take your wife/gf unless they are super dark) but never gets crazy violent. Bale is just perfect as a seething, raging man who doesn't know how to live with all the regrets of his life. Super glad I saw this movie, would highly recommend in theaters for the cinematography but definitely watch it at home otherwise. Reminded me a lot of Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven in tackling people who feel out of place in the world. It does dip hard into Hollywood-isms of bad things piling on bad things and coincidences, so I can see why critics didn't love it, but I liked it.

I echo this 100%. I really liked this movie. One of the better modern westerns produced.

I just watched The Searchers for the first time. This film just reinforces why John Ford is a master. Its one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. The film opening and closing on the same shot was amazing. John Wayne was also magnificent. Anyone that says he cannot act has never seen this movie.

I know Ford won Oscars for other films and I love many of them but I think this is his best. It is my favorite anyway.

10 Cloverfield Lane - I suspect this is one that is fragile to hype and spoilers - so don't look into it - just watch it. Must see.
(also, chick from Scott Pilgrim)

Game Night - 7/10. Great date night movie, pretty funny although goofy/unreal but I laughed a lot. Todd (Breaking Bad, Fargo) KILLING it. Worth a trip to theaters.

Mute - 5/10. Eurotrash cheapie Bladerunner rip off, feels like 2 movies smashed together. Paul Rudd is great, lead guy is ok, main female is abysmally bad. Not a great date night movie imo, sane women should hate it

Baywatch - 5/10. Its pretty crappy, writing is terrible, most of the cast is pretty charismatic though and a few jokes. Slightly above CHIPS but only because The Rock is decent and the chicks are insanely hot. ZERO female nudity but a couple of dicks, that shits gotta stop. If you gonna show a dick you gotta show some titties, man. The Rock vanishes for like 30 mins too which is just weird.

Watching Full Metal Alchemist. What's up with the dub options? English only offers +descriptions. It's like a book on tape. Still hear the mongrel language underneath, while English speaker describes everything.
The other languages don't do this. Spanish, for example, doesn't overlay the Japanese. It's only Spanish, and it's only the words.

Are you watching the live action one on Netflix? We were able to do the usual JP voice + English subs fine if that's what you were going for.

Yes. I didn't want to read and I wanted to watch it with my son. So I wanted ENG voice + no captions.
The only options were English + Description and English + Description (5.1); no just English

We ended up going with the awkward audiobook style Description + English. Son loved it btw. We got about halfway through before his bedtime.

Cloverfield Paradox - It didn't know what it wanted to be. It had the makings for many things. It could have been sci-fi horror. It didn't get there. It wasn't quite thriller. Kinda a mystery not really. And there were elements that were just hokie. It was neat. It was.
And I really like how the three were way different. (I had hoped Matrix movies would be like that, then Animatrix came out and gave me hope, but I digress).
But it lacked writing polish.
It wasn't bad per se, but it could have been way better.

Hurricane Heist - 4/10. Totally dumbass movie that has a script written by an AI I think, but if you've ever said to yourself "man these car chase scenes are cool in movies but I wish they'd use giant semi trucks instead and have it take place in a hurricane", well, this movie is great! Totally brain off action movie, dumb as fuuuuuuuuuuck, actors from the Vin Diesel school of method acting, but fun to watch on screen for 90 minutes. Not worth paying any real money but moviepass or Netflix. Sadly no tits or even any love interest, but Maggie Grace (Shannon from Lost, Sayid's love interest) was goofy fun as the action heroine although she isn't really good at her job, like at all.

I watched, A Spike Lee Joint... Inside Man. Towards the end I realized I saw it when it released and somehow forgot about it. Solid, solid movie, 7.75/10.

Just watched Jawbone. Reasonably low budget boxing film starring Johnny Harris, Ray Winstone and Ian McShane. British film set in London, dark and moody as fuck feel to it. Great acting all around. It's not the typical Rocky/Creed type film quite the opposite almost. Very good 8/10 flick- if you like boxing films, decent chance you'll enjoy this one.

This is the end - I laughed 2-3 times and that was it. Good idea but bad execution.
4/10

The Heat - Cringe fest from the beginning till the end. Not even a smirk ffs
And wtf was bill burr doing there? Sometimes you have to do anything for money right?
1/10

The Purge - Was expecting more from it. The plot is kinda eerie and fucked up (people talking abou killing like is something normal lol) but in the end, the movie was just another "survival" movie.
Although, i wanted to see more from the polite leader.
5/10

Tons of movies I've been meaning to catch have hit Netflix in the US recently.

Moon - 8.5/10 Interesting setting. Nice cinematography and Sam Rockwell is phenomenal.
Wind River - 8.5/10 Why can't more movies be so concise? You understood the motivations of every character in very short order and the movie just plays out. Great acting, some very tense moments and really well written.
Ocean's 13 - 6/10. Meh. This movie is trying really hard to be cool but it's got a great cast which sort of, kind of, saves it. A little.

I watched Krampus ( 2015 ) last night. - 8.5/10

A good combination of comedy and horror. Plus refreshing to have a film where subtly is used to build suspense, ie: hearing the noises of things slowly approaching. Or the underplayed fact that there was a growing number of snowmen outside.

The ending:

During the film, I'm thinking "Is this some weird alternate or frozen reality that they're in and can break the curse / spell once they work things out" . . But then nearer to the end, there was a quick increase in the deaths of major characters, plus little time spent dwelling on them. Which telegraphed that this was to be easily erased / back to normal. Which it was - but then an O.K. twist on that which I liked.

Alien : Covenant - 4/10. Stupid characters doing stupid things lead to stupid results, again. Too many coincidences, makes no sense in regards to Alien, and it was just lame. Good visuals and performances, this is all on the directing and writing. Do not recommend.

Thor : Ragnarok - 9/10. Fun, never takes itself too seriously while never lampooning or insulting the audience or source materials. Little uneven towards the end however the fun and style of the film more than makes up for that. Easily one of the best Marvel movies and in my opinion tied with the Winter Soldier as being the best, just for different reasons. Highly recommend.

Guardians of the Galaxy : Vol. 2 - 7.5/10. Not as good as the first, I didn’t like the colour scheme used in this. The overly bright colours felt off at times, not sure how to explain it. Just didn’t feel as fun as the first one though it remains a good movie in it’s own right. Good acting, good character development on the secondary characters though kind of weak in the main ones. It’s a movie where it’s easier to point out the flaws than the strengths, despite my criticisms it is a enjoyable movie. Definitely worth a watch if you liked the first.

Blade Runner : 2049 - 6.5/10. Great visuals and acting, well written, and interesting... when it’s not boring which is 2/3rds of the movie. Too long. Reminds me of A Thin Red Line except nowhere near as egregious with unnecessary shots and footage, just crosses the line too often. Pacing is uneven, however the ending is worthwhile. I do recommend it especially after reading the reviews of others. This could be more of the movie being less of I wanted instead of actual flaws within the movie itself so take my review with a grain of salt.

Thoroughbreds - 2/10. Leaving theaters around me, moviepass'd it today. Boring ass movie that felt like a student art film that somehow got a $20m budget. Really terrible dialogue that is snappy and sophisticated like a Quentin Tarantino movie but which makes zero sense for two 17 year old girls. Lot, and i mean a LOT, of dull, plodding scenes that made me sleepy. Poor Anton Yelchin (chekov from Star Trek reboot) is in this as his very last movie, wasted really. Its not a dark comedy, its I guess a drama/thriller, nothing at all like Heathers which reviewers kept saying. Not worth a watch in theaters or home.

Watched Charade for the first time since I was a kid since my parents were visiting and they love it. Great movie if you don't mind older stuff. 8/10 for me. Maybe 9/10.
