I remember one game where a guy took a Huey and literally all he did was fly circles around the map playing "bird bird bird". Both teams tried to shoot him down to make that song stop lol

I once finished a Midway match in BF1942 with like 200 kills. Got accused for hacking. Was super easy...I flew around in a Zero and did the "lawnmower" on plane campers on the enemy carrier and sunk all the full landing craft to pad my killcount. I was also perma-fragging all the AA guns on the island the moment they spawned, people were so pissed.

For air combat, 1942 was easily my favorite. Just because planes were slow enough that they were also very strong anti-infantry. Instead of being stuck, limited to air vs air combat like in the more modern era BF games. Plus it was fun doing stunt kills. I'd get bored on whatever the giant desert map was with open flatlands and go upside down and run people over. Only game I ever bought and used a joystick for.
There was also an entertaining period as a bug where pilots could be shot out of the cockpit, which was hilarious both as a pilot or sniper. Camp airfields as a sniper and pop people every time they lined up to get in the next plane. or if you aimed ahead as a pilot and shot em out. Played a game with a Dice or EA member and asked why they removed it and gave a response fitting of an EA employee. basically "fuck off and thanks for the money"
Took them until BF2 to intentionally incorporate that, and I THINK you could only shoot the pilots out with the M95 sniper? Which stupidly was prone to being inaccurate, i think the bullet cone fired off to the lower left regularly.

BF4 was the first time I went all in trying to be a good heli pilot. I loved that little bird.
Damn was it overpowered, at least when game launched, especially with passengers who were repairing. Tanking stingers left and right.
I really hope this game turns out good. Did not get much playtime out of Hardline or similarly BF1. Burned out quick on those.
Battlefield has always been my favorite and I'd love to go hard at playing one again.

I might even go so far as to call BF1 one of my top ten favorite games I've ever played.
I really loved BF1. I was a bit late to the party on it so I was never fresh enough to participate in the discussion here, but I thought this game was a masterpiece when I encountered it. It has its flaws, but they do not outweigh its positives.
BF1 actually encapsulates, or attempts to in any case, the essence of the franchise's title. It is much more like a 'battlefield' than is a series of towering glistening apartment blocks in Shanghai being orbited by helicopters.
People who play helicopter pilots in Battlefield are probably all just drone nerd virgin losers irl anyway.

I loved hooking up vehicles and then dropping them into the water to kill whoever was inside them.
Also that exploit that allowed you to c4 your way up onto tall buildings, much griefing came from that.
Probably the most hilarious thing I ever did in a game was on a instant spawn coral sea server. I would hop into a plane, then immedeately do a 180 and slam right into the spawn point. Or I would just fly at same level of the carrier deck and tk people over and over and over. By the time the round ended I had tkd over 50 people. i wasnt kicked thanks to the server not having auto kick enabled lol.
Another good one was the BoB map. Loading up a jeep and crashing into planes trying to take off. The game would always say the pilot tkd the people in the jeep so the pilot would instantly be kicked from the server since the default kick was 3 tks.

That was hilarious. Getting ran over by a jeep with 4 guys on it and all you see are the guys on the jeep as it trails off into the sunset with "War..... UGH.... What is it good for!"

One of my fondest memories was in BF2 when the servers were laggy as fuck.
10-20 of us hop into a chinook at the beginning of the game, it starts to take off and then the server lags really bad and all of a sudden we are perfectly upside down in the same spot. Needless to say it blew up killing all of us and we ended up losing that round, lol.
