Review sites and stuff keep talking this up like it's the best horror movie ever or something. I'm hopeful that it will be good, trailer looks pretty good too.

Yeah, it is so hard to call horror; I feel so much of it is personal taste. I'll for sure catch this in the theater as it does look like one of the better offerings this year.

Anyone see this yet? Was originally the guaranteed choice this weekend, but people are saying Upgrade is awesome, and every time someone posts an article on FB with a "THIS MOVIE IS SO SPOOKY IT WILL KILL YOU, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR FRIENDS, AND YOUR DOG" headline I cringe.

Its not scary, its just really creepy if that makes sense. If you saw the VVitch, it is very similar in structure. Very few jump scares, just a lot of disturbing shit.

If you liked The Witch, you will probably (definitely?) like this. In fact, you will probably like it more since there is so much going on in the edges of frame and focus and foreshadowing that you could probably discuss everything you saw or missed for another hour after the movie ends.

Saw it yesterday. Very reminiscinent of 70s / 80s classic demonic horror movies. It was a bit slow to start and frankly I hated all the characters for various reasons but I think it was intentional and for effect.

I'd recommend it to anyone who likes horror.

I soured on this, and then realized there are a lot of people in this world who didn't like The VVitch because they like shitty-ass childs jump scare "horror" movies.

Back in on seeing this.

red letter media makes this sound like "what remains of Edith Finch" in movie form.

Assuming I otherwise like these kinds of movies, will I be able to overcome my burning hatred of Toni Collette and enjoy this movie? I cannot explain why I hate this woman so much, I think it was always there as a general dislike until one of my coworkers couldn't stop talking about how attractive she was in a movie where (if I remember correctly) she was trying to look as manly as possible. Hell, she might have even been playing a chick that pretends to be a dude, you know the type of movie I'm talking about. I had to refrain from asking him if he was a closet gay, as his wife also could have passed for a man with a little bit of effort.

She's at Juliette Lewis and Helena Bonham Carter levels of hatred for me.

She's pretty much the main character and central to the whole movie so it'd be hard to avoid her.

As to the movie, the more I think about it the more I like it. There's a lot of stuff there, perhaps not in the most organised manner, which gives it depth. I reminded aot of true detective, s1

I don't think I've felt as uncomfortable after a movie since I saw Antichrist.

Probably one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long time.

It was alright, as you guys were saying it's more uncomfortable than scary. It's more of a melodrama with people just screaming at each other than it is a horror film.

Definitely glad I waited till I could watch this with a good headphones as it really added a good level to the uneasiness of the film. Also nice to see someone can make a creepy scary visual without having to rely on some guy in the sound booth throwing himself into a piano and percussion section.

I saw this finally and thought it was great. Lots of hidden things in this film. Enjoyment is probably going to be increased by subsequent rewatches.
