I think its safe to say that Battlefield is to WW2 what Dungeons and Dragons is to the middle ages. Both are examples of pure fantasy with a loose anchor to a period setting.

the honest question is why are you fucks moving away from semi reality large scale warfare gangbangs into COD land of insanity with slightly bigger maps.
This. BFV seems more like a BC3 than a numbered Battlefield.

I think that is a side effect of consolitis. It is much harder to have a very large map and still maintain a good level of graphics and performance on the consoles.

Bullshit. Nobody looks at the BF V reveal and has their first reaction be 'what's the woman doing there?' It's the face paint, the clothes, the katana, and the fucking cyborg arm. The fact that one of them is a woman is just a tangential complaint at most in the vast majority of articles and comments I've seen about it.

This 'Battlefield 5' Reveal Trailer Has Me More Confused Than Hyped is what the real reaction has been like.

I try to keep the political animosity mostly in the political thread, but I don't think you're going to have much luck conveying those grievances to Cybsled.

Like we've been saying for years - It's not any single instance of SJW shit that's aggravating, it's the fact that it's infected the majority of (previously) AAA titles.

I can tolerate a one armed woman fighting...so long as she's russian. Americans and Brits didnt have that, but the Soviets definitely had female sniper corps running around the eastern front.

Vorph said it, who the fuck cares about the gender part of it. Nothing about what was shown in that trailer remotely relates to WW2 or the era they are apparently setting the game in.

It is like they were sitting in a board room and the boss says, "Give me the 3 hottest things right now... GO"

Employee 1 says, "Fortnite! Let's make our game look bright and cartoony, but in the Frostbite engine."
Employee 2 says, "Overwatch! Let's have characters with unique looks and big personalities."
Employee 3 says, "Battlefield 1! Remember how much shit COD got for being futuristic and how we won people over with going back to our roots? Let's do it again!"

Hate to say it, but it appears the DICE we once knew and loved is gone. They are completely devoid of any original ideas, innovation, or industry leadership.

BF 1942 is one of my all time favorite games. I played competitively and even made custom maps for it back in the day before WoW got its hooks into me. What was cool about it was it tried to make reasonably accurate weapons and vehicles and use arcade-like mechanics (as opposed to combat simulator mechanics) which were much more user friendly and accessible. Even the mods were cool, like Forgotten Hope and Desert Combat.

The best ways to rack up disgusting kill/death ratios in that game were:

  • Iwo Jima manning the battleship. Locking down the japanese into a single spawn point meant you could just decimate them with the guns. Single volley gets 8+ kills, lol. 100+ - 0 easily.
  • Wake Island flying as the japanese. A good pilot or 2 meant that no landing craft would ever reach the island, and getting 50 kills was easy, just had to watch out for ship's AA guns.
  • Coral Sea. Dive bombing the enemy spawn. Get really high, way in the clouds, then as soon as you're over the ship and can see, dive and release bombs and fly away low. AA has a bitch of a time tracking that flight path. Rinse and repeat.
  • El Alamein locking down the enemy base. Fly the approaches so base AA can't get you, don't camp over the base. Kill any jeep or tank that tries to make the trek to the first flag. EZ

This game looks terrible. Good god, blue face paint and robotic arms?!? WTF. I also saw no mp44s, Tiger Tanks, Panther Tanks, BAR1918s, sten guns, or other cool WWII gear, but they were sure to include a fucking wire covered BAT of all things. Ugh.

So one thing that kind of gives me hope is that I believe this game is going for a more outlandish style, meaning EA is probably banking on cosmetics. Of course it's EA so of course they'll fuck up that model.

The second they announced "no premium pass", that pretty much cemented they are going to go with a cosmetic cash shop approach to fund the game on an ongoing basis. Going odd/outlandish basically opens things up for a lot more variety in terms of what options you can make available (robo arms, random weapons for flavor, warpaints, etc). Heck, allowing male and female even applies to that (more customization options, plus there are tons of people who like dressing up virtual waifu avatars and are willing to spend $$$ on it).

I would be curious as to what form it will take, though. Will it be a Fortnite style rotation, or will they go gamble boxes? Given the BF games are popular in Europe and Europe is starting to get salty about gamble boxes in some countries, I wouldn't be surprised if they go with a primarily Fortnite model for cosmetics.

Normally player silhouettes/colors would matter, but since the BF games have always had tags above your team and nothing about the enemy team, it isn't as big a deal. Plus, if people start wearing bright clothing/stuff that increases the model size/etc, they will stand out like sore thumbs and make for easy targets lol.

Think they'll target the huge genderfluid market with their cosmetic microtransactions?

I'll want the option to have a fat hog dangling from my 102lbs front-line pacifist. My in-game emotional support piglet needs a Xather figure.
