Messing around with volumetric rendering is reportedly giving a 10-20+ fps bump. Definitely should try turning it off

Game feels like it is running at 60 for me (3570k / 970):

Biggest hits to my fps were LOD Bias / Dynamic Range 64 / Anisotropic Filtering High.

@ Zindan Zindan How much ram do you have? I have the exact same CPU/GPU (398.82 driver) as you and game is just shitting on me.

I have 16g of ram. Frames drop a bit when I'm in the middle of Ancient Forest, but I'd say even then its above 30fps by a fair bit. Only thing that bothers me a bit is the amount of jaggies, not sure which AA option is better; TAA or FXAA, but those are the only two showing up.

Well figured out the issue, was the lastest Nvidia drivers. Game runs great now since I rolled them back, so much for "Provides the optimal gaming experience for Monster Hunter: World"

My game runs pretty smooth but every once in awhile it feels slow and my setup is similar to Zindan. Not sure if I feel like rolling back my drivers for a rare slowdown though.

Guess I'll look into it more and see if its a widespread problem or not.

So info for this is surprisingly messy to find and some of the systems are kinda obscure.

Wondering if I got it right, for "quests", you have the main story quest stuff, optional quests which are sidequests that are non repeatable, then you have some sort of weekly challenge quest rotation shit I think? Current one is kill 2 jagras and then another with a hunter rank 6 req.

Then you have investigations, which are unlimited randomly generated quests that pop up when you do related things in the game, those are good when you're farming a specific mob type or whatever because they reward additional stuff from that monster, but otherwise should be mostly ignored early on.

Then you have bounties, which have 3 categories, weekly one time bounties that you want to do I guess for the voucher things, critical bounties which seem like one time only "story" bounties(I found a couple in the first zone, have to fish something and capture some birds or whatever) and then the normal bounties which are unlimited and randomly generated, and you just want to pick up 6(or 8 or whatever the cap was I forgot already) at all times because these can be done during other quests, but which one you take isn't important other than making sure it's doable.

That's my understanding so far.

I'm also wondering about the research shit, do you get any reward for increasing the research thingies, it seems to imply I'm only getting info about the monsters in my book? How do you even increase it, it seems checking footprints gives research points but not research progress? I talked to another NPC in the first zone who told my about the feral cats or some shit and I've been analyzing doodles but I don't see a critical bounty for it(unlike the other 2 NPCs with fishing/capture), maybe I completed it already?

Finally, are the low lvl mats used in high lvl shit? I mean like, Jagras skins and what not. It looked on the wiki like high rank Jagras drop their own Skin+ items that are used for higher tier of armor, so that means I can use all the low lvl garbage to craft low lvl gear and not care about it right? Don't want to waste materials crafting stupid shit for no reason(since atm the game is still super easy anyway so don't really need new armor).

Pretty much. Later on Investigations are what you really want. They proc more/higher level rewards you see in the bronze/silver/gold boxes on them. Bounties are something you should always be doing. Make sure to keep refilling them. The weekly bounty for the Golden Wyvern Print is to create any rare monster piece you may be missing. So it is good to do that in the beginning if possible.

Low level mats are not used in high level shit but they are used on the tree. Like you have to build low level whatever into high level whatever. High rank drops + stuff and low rank drops normal. Craft away.

Analyze doodles until you can meet the trailraider palico tribes. It'll notify you when you find enough. To register research you need to go talk to the guy on the stack of books.

I'll be on all night tonight to shoot the shit with y'all on Discord while I play PS4.

I just did this, heads up, when you click the install remotely link you get no options. So, while it did just install on my home PC, no clue what drive it installed to. Might matter if you have a setup like mine, where you have a NVME drive, an SSD, and a storage HD. Here's to hoping it is installing to one of the first two! lol
this fucked me over too. oh well, it was only 20gb.

Only got to sit down with this last night at 11pm, was really hard to put it down at midnight when I went to bed. I'm really loving the art direction, world building and storyline of the game. I can't wait to play it again this weekend and really get into it.

Maybe I'm dumb but there's something really refreshing about not having fully voice acted cutscenes for everything. Coming into a game with some badass dude and his even more badass grandpa that say, "Here is a bunch of shit to use to dominate this wild jungle, good fucking luck" is all I really want anymore.

I started with charged blade and a mouse/kb. I don't see how it can work properly without switching to a gamepad, since it seems like a lot of the gameplay is striking in the correct direction which is impossible with a mouse/kb since your mouse doesn't directly control direction (movement keys do) and 8 cardinal directions from wasd isn't enough resolution.

What I really need is a gamepad / mouse hybrid.

I might dig out my logitech g13 to be disappointed by the joystick again, but it probably doesn't work well with MHW anyway.

Charge Blade Super Amped Elemental Discharge, if you figured that one out yet, can sortof be manipulated with camera/movement direction... but yeah I can't imagine using WASD for that.

Use Xbox controller.

Make sure to play with the options as well. There are several options for controlling the camera and I know there is one that says something about attacks going the way of the camera or the player character.

That being said, I think if I were playing melee this time around I'd just go back to the controller as well.

What is the best class to control with M/KB?

Going to go with that for a first play.

i5-4690k / GTX970 3gb / 16gb ram

High settings with Volume Rendering off and I'm getting 70fps most places, some drops to 50 or spikes to 85 here and there.

Turn it off, you get like 15 - 20fps gain with it off. I think it looks like shit anyway, it just makes the world look washed out and soapy.
