I use to like PC gaming, but now I'd much rather sit on the couch with a controller playing on a 60". :(

I preordered (sigh) the non-TI 2080. My 980 has started showing its age lately and I figured it was about time to upgrade anyway. Who knows, maybe it can run the guild hall!

"HEY E'RYBODY. I preordered this performance product for which I have no information on how it performs. Look at me."

People who preorder shit can be pretty retarded.

My main gaming PC(980Ti) is hooked up to my 65" 4k in the living room. I have another PC in my bedroom(R9 290 GPU), but I much prefer being on my couch these days.

YEah so yorue taking $2K for monitor, $1.2K for card(which I doubt the 2080 can play 4K 60fps), $1K for PC to play at 4K, lol. Thats $5K vs $500.

Edit: I also just got another 55" roku cheap 4K HDR TV 144hz for less than $500.

Hell, also do not forget let's say you are starting from Scratch.

$2,000 27" Display for HDR/4k
$1,200 Vid Card
$1,200 PC (Lack of 4k player, lack of Dolby Vision)
$300 for a Comfortable Chair (I am going to use Owner Furbished Couch in place of this in the comparison lol)
$150 for a decent (Albeit weak) 5.1 Speaker System
$500 as an opportunity cost in your time getting the PC up and running/Drivers/Testing.

$5,350 - To game in a PC chair, looking at a 27" display with a mediocre sound system, no ability to play 4k discs with lossless/Atmos, and all the "fun" that comes with maintaining the system. (Pretend you are not plugging this into an existing home theater for sake of argument)

_________________________________________________________________________ Or _________________________________________

$2,200 - 65" OLED LG Display 4k HDR with HDR10/Dolby Vision
$499 Xbox One X
$479 Klipsch Quintet 5.0 Speaker Set
$278 - Klipsch R-12 Sub (Downfiring)
$399 - Klipsch Dolby Atmos Pair Up Firing
$399 - Aventage A770 (Dolby Atmos, Vision support)
$0.00 - Existing Owner Furbished Couch (Lol told ya this was coming
$500 as opportunity cost mounting speakers and configurating system

$4,754 - To game on a couch looking at a 65" 4k HDR display with a fantastic sound system, 4k player with lossless and Dolby Atmos, with little to maintain.

Now... Let's add a PS Pro because we know all the best games are on that right now.
$399 PS Pro

$5,153 - includes both consoles and anything you want to play, while also now having your home theater and music set up for the rest of your life.

Saved almost 200 (With both consoles) for an experience that will hands down blow a PC away in terms of functionality and use case.

Choice is pretty clear.

That setup would require me bring my PC downstairs to the TV. Way too lazy when my PS4 is already there.

Well, we also need to compare which games support HDR on PC Vs Console. PC has horrible HDR support.

Doesn't matter how good your gaming PC is, it won't run Red Dead Redemption 2, Spider-man, or Smash Bros Ultimate.

I knew that post was going to open a can of worms :)

So in the end, with some of the prices they want for this, depending on use case, I can get more entertainment for my dollar across use cases based on money spent in my situation and the way I play games now. And believe me, my Xbox One X doesn't get a lot of the play time because the games aren't anywhere close. But, like Spronk says, for RDR 2 it may get to be the go to platform * If * the extra horsepower is taken advantage of.

For anyone looking for OLED or really any expensive TV and has good credit card price matching.

Find one of those sketchy sites that lists them for $500-1k less than a reputable place (like those sketchy NYC electronics stores) and submit a price match.

I bought mine off of Amazon, but price matched one and got approved no problem for almost $800 off. Basically got my TV, XB1X and a couple of games for a bit less than price of what the TV was on Amazon.

The thing is you're comparing two entirely different things, you even just said so. On one hand, a movie viewing experience that can play some videogames and on the other a top end computer that plays a lot more games and the same games a lot better, but is admitedly garbage for anything else(well I guess streaming, working, whatever, the usual computer stuff but you could do that with a 700$ one probably).

Like you compare a super top end monitor and a great TV that has nowhere near the same refresh rate or input lag, and you're like "well the TV's bigger, I wonder which one's better to watch movies eh?".

But yeah if you want to play RDR2, you'd better have a console.

Also no one is buying that monitor. As someone else said, it's so expensive because it's all those things and 144hz. You can get some quality 60hz way cheaper, which is a better comparison for the TV purpose. If you're getting that monitor you game experience is way the fuck better

Same applies to the TV, plenty go for 55" rather 65" and shave almost half of that price tag off. If you buy premium you pay premium but usually there are middle grounds with a great bang for less buck. 2000 series of cards do not appear to have that and it will be a generation that gets skipped by most.

I don't disagree. If the benchmarks show not much change in real performance on things we can actually play, then people will just wait for the 3 series. The game support will take time to develop, so if there isn't a performance reason on current games there is no reason to upgrade before the games come out.

Unless you're like me with a 960, then there is plenty of reason to upgrade
