Gask Gask Seriously. Season 1 was fucking perfect. Is 2nd season a let down like True Detective s2 - should I watch or move on?
Explore the past few months of this thread; season 2 is a dumpster fire compared to the excellent first season. You can see a gradual progression in the thread after each episode aired as it became clearer and clearer just how bad the writing is. It's sad, I was genuinely excited for more Westworld, but after that abomination of a season I now have zero interest in watching any more of this and pretty much loathe every character now.

its difficult to get through. I stopped for several weeks after 1-3, and then I'd drop more weeks when I saw more bullshit was coming. You're a real big dog if you can marathon it.

But I'm also at odds with people here who have the Asian Samurai bullshit as the highlight of the season. For them, they got through the shitty episodes and got to some kind of reward. For me, it was the worst. I knew how meaningless it was. I knew how jarring it was. It was so forced and out of place.

No way I'd rewatch that season again. I'd still do S1 again at some point.

They ran into serious trouble during the first season and shut down production for rewrites.

Sounds like they should have done the same.

The sad part is how much I looked forward to Samurai World only to be given that epic letdown.

I mean, the idea behind Samurai World was good. And it could've been neat. But they just shoe horned it in in the laziest way possible. It had fuck all to do with the rest of the story.

It's basically the theme of season two. The writers/directors/producers thought something sounded cool, so they just did it, with zero fucks given towards how it contributed to telling a cohesive story.

The worst thing about season two is how huge of a quality drop off it is from season one. It's not outright BAD in comparison to the rest of TV as a whole these days, but it's so much worse than season one that I can't help but hate it because of what COULD have been.

The worst part of season two is the SJW narrative.

I liked the actors in Samurai World, I thought the fact they were just a copy/paste of the West World characters was a good twist and then it just all goes to shit in a New York minute. It's like one writer came up with the idea ans then some totally different writer decides to make it a Neo-Maeve story.

I would have preferred Samurai World w/o Maeve and the rere crew, just like how s2e8 was just basically Akecheta

Yeah, it was a rushed expansion pack for the park - a company doing that is not totally unrealistic - Disney World Magic kingdom is just a bigger version of Disney land for instance

Not surprised to hear that Season 2 was a bit letdown.

Season 1 was borderline bad. There were some good ideas in there but ultimately I could tell the writers were pretentious. I consider Legion (the TV show) to be less pretentious than this show. That's really saying something.

Yeah, I was wondering if I was the only one that felt like season 1 was better than average but neither cohesive nor executed well enough to be truly good. It's easy to gloss over the weak plot when you have Anthony Hopkins delivering your exposition.

Season 2 was "more of the same" in that there were a handful of remarkable scenes sprinkled into an otherwise unremarkable season. This show squandered so much potential.

Because it had so much potential (and Anthony Hopkins) is the reason we feel so disappointed and will rate it so low. Granted, it is still better than most of the new garbage on TV but that's not the bar that should be met for a show like this. People always point out that the first seasons of these shows have longer to develop so they turn out so much better than the second seasons which only air a year or two later. But I doubt extending the season gap would actually improve the situation much at all when they don't go into development with a plan or a basic outline and shoot from the hip.

There are too many subpar writers that scrape by with barely interesting plots for the present episode and will never consider where it will end up a season later. So the end result is no groundwork for arcs going forward, only ass pulls that marketing will claim is "intended to keep the audience guessing."

I would rather see a mobster world and them bring back Tony Soprano from the dead to be in charge.
