It might have more open world opportunities (lol at the idea of witcher 3 not being open enough?) but I think you're going to be disappointed if you don't want an important main mission narrative.

Not saying it wasn't open, because it was. I'm just not into playing the dialogue tree game is all, or trudging through long cinematics. I dunno I tried the Witcher 3 three times and got the first big boss dead (The Griffin) and it just bored me. What I saw last night was better and what I mean by more open ended is the ability to just wander the world without having to hit certain check points or have a main story looming over your head. Kind of like what Aaron described with Skyrim. Yeah there was a main story but really you could mostly ignore it if you wanted to and just set a path and go and do whatever crossed it.

It's purely subjective, and I know I'm a heretic, but since this looks to be coming out before Bethesda's next big game (Fallout 76 does not count since it has so many multiplayer strings attached), it has my interest.

You could wander around in W3 as well, but the first map is intended as a tutorial. It was initially going to just be a straight line to the griffin, but it was too different from the open world design of the rest of the game. If open world freedom is what you want, then you completely missed out on it in W3 due to not moving on to Velen, where it's a gigantic map with a lot of non-storyline stuff to do, gated really only by level mechanics. But yeah, if you just straight up want a sandbox, W3 isn't your bag, and Cyberpunk is likely not going to be either.

yeah, I'm with you Namon. I wish I could like Witcher more. and likely the same here, its probably going to be Witcher/dues ex. I want much more sandbox. Skyrim/fo4 are in the right direction, and even they I wish were more open in what you could do. like fo4's settlements. town building, building trade routes, etc. yes please. I like the idea of a sandbox, and you can almost take different jobs. Which completely change the direction of the game effectively. wizard college, you get wizard radiant quests, theif; theiving quests, farmer, produce ones. Like a classic uncharted waters going pirate, merchant, etc.. Skyrim really failed at it. Fo4 as well. settlement defense a real letdown.
the survival games, are generally a step in the right direction. But they too are generally half finished pieces of shit forever Early access...

Obviously, I don't want every game to be the same either. so, let witcher be the witcher.

I haven't seen anything to suggest that Cyberpunk 2077 will be significantly different from TW3 in terms of its overall design, just bigger/better/more, and imo a much more interesting setting.

And I really hope they don't cave on the decision to be exclusively first-person.

I haven't either and no I'm not really expecting it. I was just watching that preview because I had an hour to kill, and fan or not, Cyberpunk is a big deal in the gaming world, and while watching it with 0 expectations, it struck me that it could possibly have more of what I want. I did like how the side quests played out. And the dialogue had some choices but it wasn't too crazy, but just a few options here and there. I think another problem I had with the Witcher 3, was that was my very first one, and I had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on so there was no context to the story. And the hurricane force winds that were practically blowing the trees to the ground (I don't have a clue why that bothered me so much but it did).

It sucks that I was so close to it opening up, but the other brick wall I hit was all my weapons and armor were damaged and needed repaired, and I only had half the money and no way to farm any more since nothing respawns and I cleared it all out already. It was just way too many things I did not like about games all added up at once so I just noped out. It sucks because I hate not liking games with that wide of appeal and acclaim.

Oh well regardless of how I end up feeling about the game, there is no doubt it will be special for many people, so I'll be content in just being excited for them.

W3 is one of the most open games I've ever played. I have no idea what you people are expecting. Going on dates like in GTA4?

This looks so good. I never played Witcher 1 or 2 but I did play 3 and it was awesome. How is it that these guys "get it" and make consistently good stuff? I Kickstarted the Ultima game back in 2012 and I got an email this week that it finally went live, I watched a video of gameplay and it looks like steaming shitpile. Ultima Shroud of the Avatar had twice the years of development and 10x the budget of this game.

Obviously that citizenship information is ascribed by the corps, wumyn. Of course those evil leechs would assign cis genders! You're a rebellious runner with no concept of gender boundaries, don't let The Man's datafile define you!

You must be confused. Just googling it, 2077 is at anywhere between $25-80 million with 300+ people working on it. Shroud was ~$2 million from kickstarter then another $1.5 million or so after that. Tiny team too. And the 2077 teaser video was uploaded Jan. 2013, Shroud kickstarter was March 2013.

Should compare it to GTA V - 2008 dev start to 2013 release - $265 million budget including marketing. 1000+ people working on it at peak. Compared to that, yeah CDred squeezes every last drop out of their people.

Damn, the article I saw on reddit talked about how cheap development costs were, mainly because the labor for CDPR is so low compared with what US companies have to pay. Good on them if they get the labor cheap and they are still dumping money into it. Regardless, looks awesome and I can't wait to buy it.

there have been reports/rumors over the years that CDPR is a pretty shitty employer, not as bad as some but still doing the usual overworking the rank and file people etc

But if you want to get proper cyberpunk flavor you have to work at least one asian programmer to death.

This gender choice shit is so fucking stupid it hurts my brain. These motherfuckers are so ignorant they don't get that at character creation you are choosing your avatars PHYSICAL GENDER, not SEXUAL IDENTITY. It's fucking simple, you get a dick or a cunt, period. Just like real life.

And why the fuck are they picking on this game in particular?? What about every other game? What about games that don't let you choose a gender at all?? I can't play Tomb Raider as a man! WAAAAHHHHHH!

Larry Croft? Instead of huge tits he has huge balls that are barely covered by his short shorts.

It's probably because they've already ruined all the other games coming out soon ..... if I were CDPR tell them to find the next spaceship leaving, and go home it's just getting stupid now.
