The idea that being an action star disqualifies someone from being Bond is a ridiculous idea that Jayrebb just made up. Arguing whether Elba is or isn't one gives that retarded idea more credit than it deserves.

He is not a major action star. To me that implies that he's successful at it financially and that's what he's most known for.

His most well known roles (Luther, Stringer Bell, and the beast of no nation) are not action roles. What's his highest grossing action film that isn't part of a huge franchise? What major action film did he headline that did more than 80 million?

At best, he is a supporting character in successful action films.

Do you consider Ryan gosling an action star because of, say, drive?

And what big major action/drama Bond-themed supporting roles, and series, have Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan starred in prior to becoming Bond?

You can raise or lower the bar for action star all you want. A Bond-esque action drama of any kind or similarity, is being equated to big major action for the purpose of this thread.

I haven't even gotten into the core reasons why Idris Elba is poor casting.

You'll see that it's not made up by the end of this thread.

Something to do with the intention of the creator-- so I hear.

Proceed with caution buddy. I am the only poster in FOH history that had people defending the artistic talent of Limp Bizkit. Quite ferociously, mind you. Don't be that guy stuck talking about how great a Limp Bizkit song was.

Remington Steele

10 years between casting isn't quite the same thing as Idris Elba being on a tear of action and supporting action drama roles for every single year of those Brosnan 10 years leading up to his eventual casting.

Idris has done some type of "man-of-particular skills" role, a bond-esque dramatic role, or acted in an action movie of some kind, almost every single year leading up to the studios decision to court him as a potential front-runner.

Pierce wasn't casted as a problem-solver, or supporter of a problem solver, repeatedly.

I'm not playing your stupid, irrelevant game. "That's not what they did with Craig or Brosnan!!!" means absolutely nothing

Yeah, that qualification would have zero impact on the quality of what could be made or how the audience would react to it. It's completely irrelevant.

Yeah, the fantasy of Bond is completely irrelevant.

You actually think someone won't see a new Bond or hate it because the actor had some experience in previous action films? This is hilarious and since the last Craig Bond is delayed, there's plenty of time to dive deep.

https://www.empireonline.com/people/said-taghmaoui/sad-taghmaoui-reportedly-cast-bond-25-villain/

According to Taghmaoui, he was indeed cast by Boyle to be the lead villain in the film, even if he doesn't yet know whether his role will actually happen. "We don’t know who the director will be, and the producers don’t know if they’re going to go Russian or Middle East with the baddie right now," he tells The National. "I literally just received a message saying: 'If they go Middle East, it’s you. If they go Russian, it’s someone else.' It’s the story of my life. Always on that line between something that could change my life and something that disappears."

I never understand these people trying to kill off successful franchises so vigorously. Listen at how strongly that article's author(and Broccoli) want to kill off a character that has lasted since 1953. Just stop making them if you are so offended by what Bond stands for? Oh, that money thing. You want to ruin it, kill the money, and then move on like Star Wars, Ghost Busters, etc? Ahhhh
Given the "Bond is a codename" fan theory and confusing timelines, I really don't mind this.

It would make a HUGE pop culture impact. If Craig dies at the end you have an Infinity War style twist which is almost unheard of in cinema but was proven to work if done well, they would then have insane hype for the next movie which would explain how there are multiple Bonds (weird British Secret Service programming?). They could even get Connery out of retirement which is making me really excited just typing it, maybe he was such a great agent he started a programme to recreate his upbringing and life experiences to create similar agents. Like the plot of Metal Gear Solid 2, though that did get fan backlash for replacing the beloved hero.

You are right though, they would find a way to fuck it up. I will point out that recently the first movie for each actor has been excellent (Goldeneye/Casino Royale), though both of those are pre SJW cuckery.

Man, the ego behind Bond being a particularly limited typecast is fucking hilariously small-minded. Though if you're not careful, Bond will end up female and Q will be a tranny.

What if...

Bond 25 reverts back to the end of Spectre with the head drill torture scene. Only to find out he really did dream the great escape thing he did there and it's actually a dream moments before his death. This is the opening sequence to the new movie. But then the remainder of the movie is the story of the "new" Bond. Whoever he may be. They need to test out potential agents first though.

I want to see Dwayne Johnson, I go to a different movie.

When I want to see a Bourne movie, I go watch a Bourne movie. The character is called James Bond-- tough to believe I know.

I wouldn't mind Craig dying either and also think they'd fuck it up. Like another poster, I just don't understand why they couldn't and haven't branched out if they want to change things up so badly. He's seven out of...? I love Connery and that weird scenario would be cool but they can't seem to make a great Bond frequently and it's just an action movie with hopefully cool gadgets. I think they could have introduced Elba in a Bond movie ages ago and probably have branched out easily. I could be wrong but he's a talented guy(just needs talented writing, good luck).

The modern world seems like a bad setting for this kind of story anyways. The world has shrunk and changed so much. Changing Bond though just seems like it will piss people off while giving everyone else a poorly created story meant more to virtue signal than entertain.

Yeah they haven't mentioned the other agents in a while. Last time was Sean Bean as 006 in Goldeneye and that was fucking epic.

Hope the new bond girl has tits, tired of all these flat girls lately. We need to go back to the 80s and 90s when big tits where in, this slim shit is for the birds.

It might be interesting to make a series of Bond films in the past, like at the height of the cold war or something along those lines. Not a ton of period action films.
