For those that care...

Been using the DPS meter...20 fights lets say, I'm ahead by a WIDE fuckin margin with Gunlance every fight minus Kushala Doara. Damn dragon is my bane. The Pickle and Black Diablo also...too much movement that puts them out of range a lot of times. But even then. I'm still 1st, just barely though.

The switch axe and hammer players are usually 2nd. ANY ranged is seems like shit. I thought maybe it was they were too far away to register...Nope. Two whole fights I purposely sat by the range guy like a dick...both times they came in 3rd. Me being last of course.

When I go hammer it's a LOT tighter on the meters. Probably my skill and proficiency vs the Gunlance though.

Funny...I've gone from survival on most of these fights, to just needing a slither of health and defense, and trying to stack my damage.

Aaaaand soon as I type this...some dude named Bari wrecks me by 10% with a heavy bow.

Heavy bowgun played correctly and with some semi right gear is going to demolish. I mean just look what Jin does.

I only used the damage meters briefly but I saw that range users were usually pretty low.

It'd be interesting to see what the average damage was for each weapon type among a large playerbase.

Killed 4 tempered Anjas at HR 44, this was the worst I have done. In this instance red(me) bow, green was HBG, blue was SnS and, yellow was glaive.

Also to echo Janx Janx yes, HBG and Bow are in a tier among themselves next to the other 12 weapons.

Here is what HBG can do, most recent run just did it today, involves 4 Flash Pods and 3 Screamer Pods.

I'm not really sure if the DPS meters are a blessing or a curse. I guess it shows how to maximize your gameplay. The thing is is that some people play differently in 4 mans. I always just go max damage and I am usually first or second in DPS by a large margin with my friends/randoms. I also have one friend who typically plays support with wide range, supportive utility items, and SnS so he can always use items whenever he needs. Even so, if you're playing against a really good bow/HBG users you should be losing in DPS if everything is equal. In the end it strengthens my epeen but there is no guarantee that someone is just tired of having shit teammates and running a utility build.

I've actually avoided using a DPS meter as of yet in MHW simply because I know how irritated I get when I use a parser in XIV (or any mmorpg). Anecdotally most bow users are trash because instead of shooting the monster, they're repeatedly plowing me in the back in the one fight I forget to bring brace.

I also don't think a DPS meter always tells the full story either, because a wide-ranger is going to have lower DPS by enabling the other players to shine.

I don't really care about weapon tier lists, but I notice HBG, Lance and Hammer pulling ahead by a large margin for me personally, but then it could be that I'm more proficient with those weapons through a ton of practice. (esp lance).

So this is an interesting idea:

Hunting Season One Pack

I haven't tried it out, but it's a mod that replaces a few of the low-tier optional quests with High Tempered quests.

I've touched on this a little before, but MHW (at least the vanilla release) is pretty egregious in its difficulty leveling being at its max around Nergigante / Diablos, and then dropping off a cliff once the player can start doing investigations easily with other players. It feels like it goes very quickly from Dark Souls (tough boss fights that gate content) to Diablo3 (easy fights to just grind grind grind). I'm finding myself enjoying the game, but also feeling like I'd enjoy it a little more if there was one more tier of monsters and not much increase in player power.

I've heard of monster hunter veterans talk about the missing G-Rank and from what I hear I can't help but feel like that would totally improve the game. In the mean time, it's interesting that players are creating mods to fill the G-Rank gap.

Other than SnS support and hunting horn, what other builds focus on enabling other players to shine?

I mean, I get that everyone can spam some flash pods and contribute a lot while other players are DPSing, but from my very limited experience I really just want most people to deal damage and kill the damn thing. Additionally status effect (KO/paralyze etc) are tied to damage, so that guy who is dealing a ton of damage is probably knocking the monster the fuck out too, right?

So from what I understand G-Rank is the traditional progression of all of their titles. They add it in to everything eventually.

Support LBG is one for sure (similar to wide-range SnS) and I've seen insect glaive users that focus on mounting the monster as much as possible using a variety of aerial oriented gems. Their damage is lessened but they actually mount most monsters 2-6 times and create massive openings for the other 3 players.

When I was playing charge blade I feel like there was some secret I didn't know about regarding how to attack a monster somebody else mounted. And it seemed in the games I was in if some insect glaive guy was in there with a bunch of melee, everytime he mounted it we just kind of waste 30s.
