Hmm... That's a tough question. Two of my favorite movies for "wow" factor are The Game & Arlington Road. I don't really think either could be remade though. The biggest issue with movies that have a twist ending is they really lose that impact after the first viewing. You're in on it the whole time.

It can work if they scatter subtle hints towards the twist that you didn't think anything of on the first viewing.

I honestly don't know how I hadn't seen The Game until this past week, but holy shit it's still good and held up well. I kept thinking it was going to be a technological movie like the Matrix, but it wasn't, he was just played pretty hard. You know he's gonna be fucked with, just not how deep that rabbit hole is gonna go. You know right at the beginning, with the question "is this part of the game?" running through your mind the whole time. It could definitely be retold, but you couldn't, or shouldn't, call it The Game or even reference the original. Just tell a similar story with a solid collection of good actors. I don't know if there is a trope, but it's basically the Grinch, or It's a Wonderful Life. Guy stuck up their own ass experiences trying times and has a revolutionary change of character.

Same with the movie Full Metal Jacket, for some fucking reason it only exists in 4:3. What the fuck Kubrick?
Apparently, Full Metal Jacket was shot in 1.37, reframed in 1.66 for the theater release in Europe and reframed in 1.85 for theater release in the US. Kubrick wanted it in the most square format possible, so all releases for home consumption have been in 1.33. Usually that would mean a pan and scan version, but here, if I understand it well, you actually see more of what was shot since the scanned versions were the theater releases!

What an asshole! How could he not know we'd all be rocking 16:9 or wider screens by now??

I can sit and watch Airplane & Starship Troopers and be completely entertained, I don't know how they would remake those and be better.

Clash of the Titans, Species, and Green Lantern would probably get my votes.

I never thought about it, since I loved the original, but they're KINDA remaking Braveheart but from the perspective of Robert Bruce:

The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across The Eighth Dimmension.

The Miami Connection, except as an cartoon series. (Think Jem and The Holograms except with ninjas and guys)

I agree with Prince of Darkness being remade as either a movie or series.

A remake of Reboot. Not the shitty looking live action/CG hybrid sequel they're making, just a remake of the original series.

If you want a thorough triggering then you might want a remake of Blazing Saddles which i vote for. Heads would explode to such epic proportions that it just might solve Hollywood and LA traffic problems.

Wing Commander but done right, retconn the stupid Pilgram sub plot and have the Kilrathi look like the ones from the game.

I think you might actually get that after Clint dies.

You'll get a good western once every other year or so. And that was a good one.

Willow

Any and all movies starting Dolph, Arnie, Stalone, and Jet Li but only if rated R and have a lead at least 90% as cool as above.

New Spaceballs movie, in fact any new Mel Brooks movie.

Robot Jox
More Judge Dredd movies,
Remake all the DC garbage,
Other Matrix movies,

I'm pretty sure these are all technically sequels. They take place in the same universe, just in the future.

When I think remakes, I think something like Point Break, Ghostbusters, Willy Wonka or The Magnificent Seven. Not entirely sure about something like Oceans 8 where they tried to tie it into the other characters (Ghostbusters may have done this as well, not sure, as I actually haven't seen either of these movies). But that said, Oceans Eleven falls into the actual remake category.
