And other than star trek how many of those are just continuations of the real world and not entirely new universes set on galactic scale?

Let's amend what I said then. Sci Fi on the scale of star wars is dead. No new worlds are or will be created on that level again. Comic book movies murdered that genre. Let the fucking thing die imo.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Sci-Fi is. It is not just space-based futuristic stuff. There are different interpretations as with any genre, but those elements are just sub-genre elements. Sci-Fi itself deals with an extensive amount of aspects.

As for the amendment, yeah, Space-Opera action movies are pretty much a dying breed and won't see much life until a revival.

Why would you look to movies as universe creators? The overwhelming majority of those have started as books or novels and then been adapted for both fantasy + sci-fi. The modern standard for such universes aren't even movies any more they're made into TV series.

The Expanse would be the major example of what you are looking for.

I think that's the best part is that there are tons of material that are canon and non-canon and you're not handcuffed to anything. Also, you can easily give the fans what they wanted. Boba Fett was a chance to make it up to the fans and make it a complete BA movie. I would have done a Battle of the Bounty Hunters and had IG-88 as the "villain" and made Boba Fett everything the fans want him to be. Should have been easy money...

I really wish they wouldn't have spoiled Obiwan and Darth Maul with their animated show. That should have been the Obiwan movie.

It shouldn't be that difficult to make these decisions. The fans have essentially shown them what they want...
yeah, but my point was, why is Boba Fett important? he had practically no screen time and hardly any lines to say. he got tossed in a sarlacc pit and it should be game over. only accomplishment he had was he was smarter than the average stormtrooper. thats really not saying much. heres an idea, if you want a scifi movie about an interstellar bounty hunter, just wait for Lobo to be released

Dunno why you're being so obtuse on this issue, but he's important because the EU made him important and even if the majority of the EU is no longer canon it still drives a lot of interest in secondary characters.

I thought Boba Fett was the original stormtrooper? Been a while since I watched the prequels, but I thought he was the model they sampled for the clones. Would make sense he'd be a step above

Fett is a fan favorite precisely because there was basically no information about him. He just looked awesome and even the most evil badass in Star Wars had to tell him to not go to crazy. That left a lot open for imagination to fill gaps and that would be good for movies since there is a wide open field to be filled.

It's almost like a rich and vibrant universe lends itself to fertile imaginations to run wild..

yeah, i dont care about the EU, i am your average SW fan, i watched the original trilogy in the theater when it came out, i saw 2 of the 3 prequels in the theater when they came out. i had a bunch of SW toys as a kid. i even had a boba fett. that all being said, i still dont care about BF's background any more than i cared about Lando, Admiral Akbar or Darth Maul's origins. i thought they went too far in Attack of The Clones with Fett. what else is needed to be said?

No, you aren't an average SW fan. The average SW fan has at least a passing familiarity with some amount of EU content. And no I don't mean the average fan has a Mara Jade waifu pillow and cried themselves to sleep for a week when Jaina killed Jacen, but they've at least read a book or two, maybe watched Clone Wars or Rebels, or they have an autistic friend that has given them the cliff notes of all sorts of random EU shit. People who have zero familiarity with anything beyond the movies can barely even be called fans.

thats ridiculous, if i like something, that makes me a fan of it. the fact i had star wars toys and dressed up as star wars characters for halloween as a kid pretty much cements that fact. i read one of the novels, it was about some salty chick who worked as a Jabba whore wanting revenge on Luke for killing her business. i noped right out and never touched the rest of those. i'll keep to the films. thank you very much.

-edit
i also watched the SW Holiday special as a kid along with the Ewoks tv show. oh and i played this too.

You're basically someone who claims to be an NFL fan but only watches the Superbowl.

bad analogy since the novels are not canon to the movies. especially the originals. the movies are the canon.

All that shit was canon for decades. Clone Wars, Rebels, and any novels written since Disney acquired the IP are still canon.

all taken from the movies and expanded upon, but taken from the movies nonetheless. if you are a disney SW fanboy then i cant help you. i begrudgingly accept the prequels as canon, its gonna take me a while to believe Admiral Holdo and Rose Tico as anything but an abomination.
