Should I buy this monitor? I was really looking to just get whatever is around $150 but this seems like a pretty good deal? I just want to buy a new "main monitor" and use my old 23" acer as the extra. I don't play much FPS stuff maybe OW occasionally, typically mmos or single player games. i have gtx 1060 3gb & i5 3570k (don't laugh). i'll probably buy a new gpu within the year

So AMD's Epyc 2 is confirmed to be 64 cores. Wonder if AMD will stick with 8 cores for Ryzen 3XXX series.

2019 should be good for some more fun upgrades! It is also going bring much gain in profit and market share accross the board for AMD and great pain for Intel everywhere. Looks great for consumers, more hpc and server $$ for AMD should translate to better competition in gaming & desktop for both CPUs and GPUs in 2020+.

I would wager regular Zen 3xxx stays 8 core since a CCX is now full die size. Threadrippers only for 8+ threads. Perhaps we shall see an 8c Vega/Navi APU upgrade in 2020? Gaming and general desktop IPC should be @ or above Intel now with u-arch improvements and double? size unified L3. No more numa optimizations needed.
New 7nm process clocks might be biggest weakness vs Intel 14nm+++++.

Just finished assembling my PC and setting up windows and shit. Launched MHW to check it out, what a change from my old ass PC. Went from i4650k or something like that with a GTX 770 to Ryzen 2700x and RTX 2080ti. 1680x1050 low option 80%rendering scale pixel paste garbage to 4k everything maxed, feels good. Also changed my old screen I've had for almost 10years, 22inches > 32inches change, shit's literally twice as big as the old one.

Now just hoping the 2080ti won't die randomly since getting another one might be problematic since they're out in most shops.

GL with your 2080ti. I shipped my 2070 rma off on Monday (lasted for about 6 hours of internet/youtube browsing, died as soon as I tried to play BLOPS4), hoping I get my replacement by the 19th since that'd be 2 full weeks. I'm hoping my replacement doesn't die on me in the first couple months, too.

I went from 22inch to 27 inch 1440p, still trying to get used to the difference in monitor size heh.

Edit: Which monitor did you go with?

Acer XB321HK. It's only 60hz but I wanted to try 4k and it's not like you can run 4k at more than 60FPS in most games anyway, so figured it'd be fine until graphics cards get so good they run 4k 120FPS average on new shit, which should still be a fair amount of time away.

Nice man grats on the upgrade. GL with the 2080ti, just saw that Kyle over at HardOCP had his FE fail. Definitely seems like there's an issue with at least some of the cards.

Man fucking heart attack, today I launch MHW, figure I'm going to do a few Barroth for the bounty, 2080ti keeps crashing, black screen monitor saying no signal, then back, sometimes a bunch, sometimes not. I load Rotten Vale to check and sure enough, looking toward the zone was constantly crashing it(looking towards the ground or alt tabbing was fine).

Start panicking obviously, launch Doom to check if it's a MHW thing since there was a patch yesterday, only other game that requires a good GFX that I have, screen literally crashing non stop on the LOADING of the first level. Actually press spacebar to launch the level, surprisingly, just works fine the entire level. Surely the loading screen can't be more demanding than the game. Go back to loading screen, constantly crash, laod the level, can play fine(that's with most stuff on high/ultra at 4k mind you). Try lowering the clock/ram in case of, pumping the fans max speed(card wasn't overheating mind you but eh), fucking nothing works.

Then I remember I installed a new Nvidia driver yesterday before going to bed that said they'd "fix RTX power consumption" or whatever the fuck. Reinstall the drivers I had before from 3days ago. Apparently fixed, knock on wood, loading in Doom doesn't crash, ran a full hunt in Rotten Vale, no issue. Seems these new drivers are retarded. Found the reddit thread, seems it's a common enough issue.

Actually thinking of selling my 1080ti. I have had no interest in PC games lately and there's nothing on the horizon between now and the next gen after Turing other than Cyberpunk. Might be best to get the money now and just save it to put towards a future card.

I'm burned out on strategy/management games, and MMO's are shit now, which doesn't leave a lot to play.

Stupid sexy PS4 exclusives

My Ps4 is used by my kids and wife most of the time because I've always been a PC gamer. Then I started getting into more console games, especially lately. Now it's a fight on who can get the Ps4. I'm a pretty awesome Dad, haha, so I'll let the kids have it most of the time, only to sulk back to my computer, and pull up Twitch or something because I literally have zero interest in the dozens of PC games I have. :(

The new version of RTSS is out which includes the Scanline Sync stuff. It's a great alternative for those without Gsync/Freesync setups that dislike vsync. It's not perfect, but is better than vsync if you're under 80% or so GPU usage

It was expected, but still nice to have it confirmed

[H]ardOCP: Intel Confirms Adaptive Sync

Intel has confirmed the use of Adaptive Sync technologies in upcoming processor graphics and discrete graphics. Lisa Pearce, Vice President at Intel Corporation, went on to say that Intel in no way would be moving towards a proprietary technology to employ adaptive sync. So it would seem that we will be seeing upcoming Intel CPUs with iGPU adaptive sync support.

RMA d a bricked Asrock X470 m-itx AM4 board today.

A very nice board when it worked, Ryzen 2400G OCed nicely too. Nice except for shitty BIOS which flaked out completely over last couple of days.
It was a truly bizarre and novel experience of failure. The system ran well for four days. 5th day it started giving blank screen on powerup/reboot (locked out of BIOS config completely) but STILL booted into OS (blindly). It worked like that very well for 2 more days .... to just not booting at all last night. Damn shame as no other board has features of Asrock in m-itx. Only feature missing is a dual Bios heh.

Good thing the board bricked *just* before I reformated my old setup.
