Been playing for awhile and as a hardcore fallout fan I am liking it? yeah? kinda? I went in with low expectations so that helps but it just feels like an amusement park going from ride to ride. I have been impressed with the holotape lore; they put alot of effort into that atleast. Also the morrowind engine is not doing well with the texture load ins. Really puts the engine on display in the worst possible situation.

My fun always on talk, players forming stories experience was I ran into someone named Catmongo (or something cat) and all I could here were actual cats meowing in the players background. Catlady ftw.

My issue is not the type of game it is, it is the cost. 1300 hours Ark, 1800 hours Rust, 400 hours 7D2D and 450 hours NMS and I got all 4 of them combined for less than this idiot company thinks this game is worth. It is a $20 tops NEW game, not a $60+.

Still having fun with it. The scavenger hunting tags my ocd, the mobs die while in my face and I see other players around and we occasionally kill stuff together (single player games bore me).

But I'm an easy mark for gaming companies. Get a few days of enjoyment out of a game and that's good enough for me. Then off to the new shiney. This should keep me busy until the new league hits in PoE.

Finally got my "physical" PC copy so I could play. Amazon had discounted it by $20 for presale, but it is literally a DVD case /w no DVD and just a code lol. Whatever, got it cheaper

I found the Sanctum of Secrets or whatever (Mistress of Mystery from the Silver Shroud). The entrance is pretty cool, hidden superhero base security out of the Incredibles. It was a nice touch that the Silver Shroud obsessed Ghoul from FO4 was helping the actresses' husband figure out how to make her gadgets from the radio show work IRL before the war and then after the war she basically starts training an army of heroes. His fan letters are pretty lol...basically a riff on the super fan finding continuity errors.

I found a plasma gatling gun, but it is locked behind a level 3 terminal hack. Only have level 2 ;/ But nearby was a legendary assaultron that dropped a nice chestpiece that auto-resses you if you die (50% chance) and a high level lever action rifle. Tip of people playing: Be sure to gather all the black titanium you can find. A really nice set of mid-level power armor can be made (Excavator Armor) for fairly easy mats when you unlock the quest, but each piece requires 2 black titanium scrap to make and you need the full set to make the scanner recognize you and get the quest reward.

edit: 6 black titanium per piece. But a full set increases your total carry weight budget by 100 and you get the plans for a power armor crafting station. Level 25 set, really good for the level (vs using Raider or T-45) until you get high enough to use the T-51 and T-60 sets. Easiest way, outside of mining, to get black titanium is to slaughter mole miners and scrap their mole miner scrap drops.

Also learned a trick regarding power armor. So when you find a power armor out in the world, you can't claim it if the armor pieces on it are higher level than you. You basically have to strip the frame and then you can claim the frame. However, once you own the frame, you can deploy it and then add the power armor pieces to it, then just walk away (away from other players unless you want them to jack the suit lol). After 60 seconds, the suit is recalled to your inventory with the equiped armor. You still can't wear it yet, but the frame in inventory only weighs 10 pounds, so you don't have to carry around hundred of pounds of armor you can't use. Good way to build complete armor sets before you're ready to use them.

I'm personally not a "true" fallout fan as I absolutely hate wading through dialogue trees. And i know that was a big part of the original games' charm. However, I loved the gameplay loop of Fallout 4 and it's one of my favorite games. And this does look to largely be much of the same, so that part is cool. However, it does seem like it's more survival (Rust et al) and those parts seem just flat annoying. They are trying to please way too many different tastes in this game and it shows. Want to be a true survival game? Cool then fully commit and make it one and make it more F2P like the others. OR make it Bethesda style Fallout that is simply coop. Also fully commit to PVP and either make it 100% PVP or at least have servers that are 100% open PVP with strict PVE servers to choose from. However, they are trying to do it all at once in this very sloppy mish mash of a game from a studio that doesn't have a great track record. Totally seeing how this thing evolves before I jump in. I was very skeptical at the announcement and was not excited at all. Those feelings changed in some areas, but at the same time my positive feelings turned negative in others. This game is a mess right now for all of the above reasons, so I'm waiting to see if they evolve it to be a coop version of past Bethesda games. If they do that, I'm in, but not until then.
