No but now that I know it exists I won't be able to stop myself from buying it. I'm a total sucker for legacy games.

Im looking for some sort of board game in the vein of DungeonQuest or WarhammerQuest to play with 5 people. Coop with some degree pf progression or randomness/replay-ability would be amazing. The more minis and bits and bobbles the better too really. Any suggestions?

That’s a hard question with the five person requirement, maybe ravingspire or sword and sorcery?

Descent is five player but one person plays the bad guys, still it may be worth a shot.

If it were four person, gloomhaven is king. There is also warhammer quest : silver tower, shadows of brimstone, and a few others.

I googled around a bit and it looks like some people have had some success with five player variant gloomhaven. I’d read up on that first and see if it works for you. It has been the number one ranked game (all games period) since it released.

5 player? Mysterium or Zombicide would be my go to at that player level. Time stories also plays at that level but two people need to share a character. Since most of that is problem solving it never bothered my group. The UNLOCK games are not replayable but at 15 bucks each also work.

Zombicide and massive darkness are good for 5 player but there isn’t any character progression except for within each mission, and no ‘bits’ beyond gear cards. There are a shitload of minis though which checks that box.

With that said it’s easy to create a custom campaign, there’s a decent one called Darkest Night on bgg. We’re playing through it at the moment but really the game is still easy and pretty simplistic. The character progression is just always the same and isn’t very deep.

Massive Darkness could be pretty good with a custom campaign and some house rules, it has a little more character options compared to zombicide.

As someone who went mostly all in on Massive Darkness I'd avoid it unless you want to introduce children to dungeon crawl with minor progression or you love painting minis. I consider selling the works at a extreme discount all the time and the only thing that stops me is a rumor of a major rework incoming. Go with Zombicide or Gloomhaven. Gloomhaven isn't meant for 5 but do you really have everyone show up most weeks?

Finally finished playing every race in Gaia Project. Lantids can go fly a kite. Had to wait all this time for the board/victory tile set up to be conducive to even competing with them :D Half the end-game scoring tiles read "no u lantids."

just finished up the Charterstone campaign with 3 players in total, I thought it was pretty good. We will play a few games of the fully built worker placement now just to get a feel for it once its completed but we had a really good time with the 12 game campaign. One of our players was 10 and he did just fine with it, so I think it would be a great game for families. The legacy style of it is pretty fun once you get past the awkwardness of the 1st game and figure out fully what you are doing.

I bought the rebuild kit so we can try it from the other 3 charters instead of the ones we picked this time on a future campaign. For the 40 bucks that the base game cost I thought it was well worth it.

Looking forward to getting back to Gloomhaven though, we have the back 1/2 of that campaign to finish and I'm ready!

This thread makes me wish I still had Fireball Island

Yeah I’m bummed my grandparents lost mine somewhere throughout the years. We played it a ton growing up.

I bought the new one for my son for Xmas. That’s how I got mine from my dad. I think I’ll be more excited to play it than he will lol

We got our copy of TMB a couple days ago and inventoried it last night. Very impressed with the build quality and the rules, even got the wife excited to check it out. What's funny is we received all the expansions and addons about 3 weeks ago but we didn't want to do anything with it until we got the base game which wasn't slated to get shipped until 2019. It was a great surprise to get it early.

Only gotten the chance for one so far, and while we were botching a major rule that would've toned down the difficulty some (The "start of combat abilities" to our chars, we were playing tank + heals) our result was similar first time.

Tis definitely unforgiving sometimes. But freebies at the start of each fight that we were ignoring will help a ton next time.
