I wanna brag for a minute, so skip this if you don't want to hear it.

My twins are seniors this year. As of today, they are both accepted to their first-choice schools for next year, and they both have enough scholarship money to pay for everything except for $3,500 for one, and $4,000 for the other (each year, including housing and books). These are all academic scholarships. My girls have worked their asses off, and they're seeing the reward of that work now. They're going to get through all of undergraduate at excellent schools with no debt. They each have enough saved right now to pay for everything they need to. They are, right now, seeing how hard work and dedication can have a positive direct impact on their lives. It's monumental.

This is more than just "Yay we got in and have money." They both, of course, had serious nerves about going to college next year. Living on their own, and being able to manage the academics of the difficult programs they have chosen. This came down to the colleges essentially saying "what do you need for us to get you here?" This is massive reassurance for both of them. The excitement/apprehension balance for leaving home tipped much further toward excitement as we discussed what these offers mean.

I am incredibly proud of my girls. I'm very excited for their futures. One is pre-med and one is music performance. Vastly different identical twins. They're both going to do amazing, and not because their mom and I push them. These girls are self-motivated.

Sorry, I'm not trying to show off or gloat, but this is a massive moment in parenting for us, as it would be for anyone, I think.

I'm very excited.

That is awesome man! I if I could like your post more than once I would. Definitely reinforces my mind set to stay the course with my kids and navigate the push vs encourage tactics etc etc etc.

germ, snot, and shit factories.

You put food in and filth comes out.

But I guess if you beat them often enough, one of them might go into pre-med!

So about a year or so ago my kid got lice... and I don't think I've ever gotten over it. Every time they scratch their head I pause. We went to Target and were looking at Switches and stuff and he put on a mario hat and I had a mini-freak out. Then he scratched his head later and I started having flash backs to all the cleaning and shit we had to do.

Now my scalp is itching.

That was a wild ride you took me on
That's Dad Life?

The whites of my left eye went from "hey, you look like you should sleep more" to "Ahhhh! Cyborg!!!" overnight.

Medical adventure time aside, my daughter eats and poops twice as much as the other kids in her day care group. Baby Shark for days, ugh.

Ok. So I just got done reading to my daughter and putting her to bed. After we hugged and I got up to walk out of the room, she says "I can't believe you're going to be dead soon and mommy is going to have to raise me all alone."

That the fuck?

Yeah, it was pretty fucked up. Especially after we spent a nice day doing some father/daughter activities in town.

My wife just messaged me saying that she said it the other day also. More specifically, she asked my wife if when I die, would she take care of her. Hmm...
This kid is fucked up. Suddenly I have "The Good Daughter" in the other room. Henryetta.

That reminded me that my kid pulled some of that reincarnation stuff the other day.

"Daddy when I was older in highschool and my car crashed ..." uh wut

He's also learning a lot of wonderful things at preschool. He's raised his gifts at his brother and shook them like he was ready to punch (3.5 btw, I had to hold in my laughter about how nonthreatening it looked. He shoots "guns" now all the time - doesn't worry me but worries the wife. Thankfully he doesn't know I have a gun.

Thought I'd see what people here think about it. Yeah, I try to teach my kids to stand up to bullies, and to stop bullies wherever they see them, but I also want my kids to know to go and report bullies when the situation calls for it. This doesn't make my kids victims, it makes them responsible, I'd say.

Other thoughts?

I'm cynical and don't believe that reporting bullies will do anything unless the victim reports it and even then the school will do what? Have them say sorry and move on? I feel schools wanna put their head in the sand and not deal with it.

Everywhere is of course different and maybe things have come a long way. Who knows, but that's my take on it.

I am not going to tell my wife but I'm going to tell my kids if a bully starts picking on them just punch them in the face first.

Let's see how this turns out.

I was never bullied due to my size and social circle beyond a single kid who I beat the fuck out of, I don't think anyone messed with a 6 foot 8th grader

So I did this.

My son was getting picked on at the start of the school year. I told him you have to stand up for yourself. You can’t let people treat you like that. They were taking his glasses and giving 5 stars on his back.

So......He pimp smacks the bully. Then one of the bullies friends tries to shank my son with a pencil in the back. No puncture wound but a good cut. Pencil broke on impact. It then turned into 3 vs 1 and my son got them all to the ground. Then it was broken up by school staff.

Round 2,

A week later same bullies are messing with a girl my son likes. He delivers a solid right cross. Fight over.

Lunch detention two days in a row.

Solid results and detention was worth it. I told him in front of school staff “I am proud of you. Sometimes you just need to punch someone in the face”.
