I like how SpaceX have changed how we perceive the challenge of relanding boosters from "that's stupidly impossible" to "oh, yeah, they did it again" in less than a year.

SpaceX is awesome. Crossing fingers for more awesome in coming years (Falcon Heavy and mars missions come to mind).

4.2 lightyears wow... so Dyson's notes on the Project Orion spacecraft put a theoretical speed of 0.08 to 0.1c with the largest proposed version after a couple months of acceleration. We could prolly micronize the 1950's nukes by half so a modern version would have enough nukes to accelerate even longer while saving fuel for deceleration... so say 0.2c. So give or take 21 years for a project-orion style generation ship to get there.

Imagine if we actually galvanized the nation or world like they did after Kennedy's death. In stead we piss it away bombing brown people which while worthwhile is much less so.

We can galvanize it, throw it in a tank of boiling acid and then a tank of boiling zinc....Oh wait wrong galvanize.

Disappointing observation.

If we decided today to send anything to the outer solar system it will take decades.

So its gravity, strong nuclear, weak nuclear, electromagnetic and The Force?

Not just the force... the Dark Side:

Article said:
The possible fifth force, according to Feng, may also be linked to electromagnetic force, as well as strong and weak nuclear forces embodying one grander and more fundamental force.

A separate sphere of physics, a dark sector in contrast to the standard model with dark matter and dark forces, is also possible. The researchers said that these two sectors may interact with each other through fundamental but veiled interactions.

"This dark sector force may manifest itself as this protophobic force we're seeing as a result of the Hungarian experiment," Feng said, adding that this fits in with their original research that aimed to shed light on the nature of dark matter.

Pretty cool shot of the Falcon9 arriving on the drone ship in Florida yesterday. This one has a worker at the site to put the rocket's size into perspective. All those videos don't really do the whole fucking SCALE of this thing justice.

It's literally a 22-storey tall building riding a 150-foot plume of fire to land erect in the middle of the ocean:

Yea, wow.. that does really scale things appropriately. The landing videos, while impressive as they are, make the rockets look much smaller than they actually are!

Can't wait to see a Falcon Heavy launch and recovery of the multiple stages simultaneously. That's going to be fucking awesome.
