You being a game design and design principles teacher is quite the shocking revelation. How much do you reveal to your students about your love of 1999 design principles?

Actually very little with the exception that sometimes less is more and also, don't be afraid of an idea.... you never know when you'll accidentally create a game that nearly 20 years later they'll be message boards filled with jaded old people reminiscing of the good ol' days of your game. It's funny though how many of them want to remake classic game or something from their own childhoods.

Let's be honest though.... EQ isn't beloved by any of us because of their stellar designs and concepts. Maybe bits and pieces of it...

i thought the spaceship in qeynos was pretty awesome.

EQN was dead to me as soon as they said no Trolls. Fuck those guys. #TrollLivesMatter.

Landmark could at least be entertaining. Get drunk, and see how far you could dig a hole before you were ported to the surface.

I lost interest in this as soon as they said they had scrapped their sweet early character models and a huge bunch of other content, and restarted the project all over again with voxels and disney pixar characters and a fucking terrible new sountrack and a shitty new boxart. And then they started talking about how it is going to be like a MOBA or something, and the characters were doing parkour and I instantly lolled outta there. That was like 3 years ago. Anyone who hung in there deserves to be disappointed. SOE did nothing good since about 2003. Fool you once shame on them, fool you twice, shame on you. Fool you 1000000 times, you're dummy. I have sympathy with all old eq fans but you have to accept, SOE/Daybreak are the last company on earth to bring that kind of thing back. It needs to be some small indie team like Pantheon. And even that isn't really going to be the next EQ. It will likely be more of the same, which is fine for most of us. But EQ was special because it was bigger and better than everything, so to be the next EQ it needs a huge budget and yet to be hardcore, which aint gonna happen. For that to happen something like Pantheon has to happen first, and it has to become really successful so some bigger company makes their own version of it. Expect to grow very old waiting.
