Probably a bit of both. More invasions naturally means more players spread out between them.
Lots of people have multiple alts. Probably more than Blizzard thought. Now that they have no incentive to really grind the invasions they'll just dumpster the alts they never played anyway.

I was enjoying the leveling. Was finally leveling a lock I started in burning crusade. Hes been sitting in dalaran at 65 for awhile. Was out doing invasions with a combo of afking occasionally and participating while I worked on other things. It is still a little something but tbh it really makes participating less rewarding. Now I guess I'll just leach.

I'd bet anything the conversation at blizzard was something like this.
Bliz Peon: Sir! Some people are using RAF experience bonus combined with EXP potions we provided them and various EXP bonus gear and buffs we allow to get 8 levels out of a single invasion (at lvl 40).

Yea, they did. One of the developers even posted that it had been increased and was a "good way to level alts".
Now they cut the nuts off of them and a second developer says "TLDR if you just want to AFK near some invasions for free levels, you'll have to run around a little more. I think that's perfectly fair."
There are some schizophrenic mutherfuckers working at Blizzard.

It pisses me off so much because letting us have fun in these invasions is the least they can do as a fucking apology for draenor. Leveling in this game is such a joke anyway, why bother nerfing it?

Thats the part I don't get.. they know very well that they have made everything sub 100 completely and utterly fucking worthless in every goddamn way.. Then might as well let people get to 100 through these invasions so they can hop into they Xpac they wanna sell.. and these cunts wonder why they lose millions and millions of subs.

The thing I dread most about leveling characters isn't questing. I don't mind that shit.
Its those fucking AIDS intro missions. They never had that shit in Wrath or BC. Not sure about Cata, but the Pandaland intro and ESPECIALLY the WOD intro are fucking awful. Pandaland is cool overall but that intro shit sucked balls.
Also keeping WoD flying a pain in the ass to get. Fuck you there too.

Yeah I don't mind doing that shit once but following around Khadgar to clear the portal to open the garrison on each character is fucking awful. It's like I did this shit before fuck off.. give me my fucking garrison and let me play the shit I actually wanna play.

I think you are also seeing more leechers with lower level alts in the zone but not helping with the event slowing things down as well.

This is one nice lesson they learned in legion. Once the expansion goes live once you do all the lead up shit one time on one character you can skip it on all future characters if you want to and just go straight to starting to work on your artifact of choice.

Also yeah I have no desire to help the invasion at all if I'm getting less xp lol. I was participating about 90% of the time and now it's absolutely 0%. I was excited for massive XP gains mostly because I fucking HATE leveling alts now, but also because leveling up while being in the actual world is something I haven't experienced since... cataclysm? It's far more profitable to do dungeons and I'm bored of it. You can quest in the world but you're basically wasting your time cause it takes 5x longer.
Maybe they'll get this scaling shit down and I can quest wherever I want and not outlevel the zone in 3 quests.
