There were many people who saw a lot of Babylon 5 in Mass Effect. I think it is because Mass Effect has been so creatively successful that has prompted JMS to consider a rebooted Babylon 5 with better production values and a streamlined plot.

not sure what in the plot needed to be streamlined. if left along the 5 year arc was damn near perfect

Not sure where to go now with scifi, might push through with Farscape and at least get into the second season, give it a chance.

BABYLON 5 | go90

All 5 seasons, every episode, available online. The movies do NOT seem to be on that website although I didn't look carefully.

Go90 is some new streaming website, it does a lot of ads on podcasts I listen to so I guess they are trying to break into the market or something. Don't need to sign up for an account or anything, I watched a few mins of episode 1 and no ads popped up either but that mighta been because of uBlock

If you haven't watched this and you like scifi, watch it. It blows my mind that my friend who won't shut up about DS9 refuses to watch B5. Easily one of the top 5 scifi/fantasy TV series, and way ahead of it's time.

After having been gone from streaming services for a while you can watch this for free on go90.com. It's owned by Verizon so it's above board.

go90 - OOOPS!

I watched B5 1.5 times. I loved it, the show was amazing. The amount of foreshadowing was amazing, things that resolves in later season whose seed were planted in early season was just amazing.

That said, the production value are low, both for special effect and cast. While there were some good acting, there were quite a few that were cringe worthy. When I tried to rewatch it a few years later...the acting more than the special effect got to me, and I stopped during the second season I think.

Then there the issue with the last 2 seasons, essentially the show was supposed to be cancelled after season 4, so they rushed the story to conclude it by the end of season 4 instead of 5 which showed it was rushed a bit. When the show wasn't cancelled they essentially wrote a new story for season 5 that had little to do with season 1-4 and season 5 was noticeably inferior to the previous 4.

Still is one of my favorite show of all time.

Yeah S1 is the usual slow and awkward 90's scifi start, and s5 mostly just sucked (skipped it on the rewatch), but 2/3/4 are just scif gold. It shits me because I can't get people I know, even hardcore ds9 fans, to check this show out.

You need S1 though - but I do wonder that they would have done if the first captain wasn't handsy with the females.

S5 was not bad - it had good moments and was a "after it all... we still have lives to live" type thing... and mmmm Sheridan's ex... - she was good ol American hotness while Delen was that French exotic type.

Didn't it come out after he died that he left because he had mental issues. If he had been handsy he would never have been asked back for the cameos he did surely? We are talking about Sinclair right?

Yeah, I just read some of the interviews and whatnot and how he would not be in the same scene as those he wanted to play grab ass with.

Dunno about being mental

Good stuff - literally just watched that episode yesterday. Doing rewatch #3, and picking up on a ton of buildup and foreshadowing in S1 I missed last time around. Makes me realise how much they had the story arc locked down from day 1 and wonder how even better the show could have been if they hadn't had to swap out Sinclair for Sheridan (not that Sheridan was bad, but the story would have been much tighter if they hadn't had to do stuff like repeat the storyline with his ex). Definitely ahead of it's time.

One thing I've been wondering is what the deal was with Talia. They build her up quite a bit early on (the episode with her superpowered ex comes to mind - it helps build up the psicorp stuff and brings Bester in - and I love me some Bester - but I get the definite sense it was supposed to be an early chance to give her a power boost so she'd be the one shutting down the Shadow ships later on), then she gets dropped suddenly in I think S3? And in a way that felt like they were holding out to potentially write her back in, iirc.

And they bring the Leta actress back to replace her as local telepath, except she doesn't get a whole lot of development, just pops out when they need her to do telepathic shit. Definitely get the feeling Talia was supposed to stick around for the whole run... or maybe I'm just wishing they'd played out the Ivanova/Talia relationship a little further...

Still haven't convinced a single person to watch this show though, makes me sad inside :(
