In my opinion the BSB is the reason you don't have to hone those abilities now. The nice thing about these Mage BSBs is that their commands correspond to the element being enhanced. Once you activate the BSB you will be using the commands and you won't be using regular abilities.

Pretty much. You only need rank 1 or 2 protectga and shellga. Anything above that is a luxury. Full Break needs to be rank 2. Rank 3 is a luxury but it's one of the best quality of life luxuries you can find.

Completely agree. The AI is dumb and won't use things like Dual Cast ever. So unless I get BTFO by a Noctis flask (I call this getting Noctised), I will win every time. I lose once every other week at most when Black Mages aren't neutered but that rate goes way up if black magic is forbidden.

Well I only had 3 items on the list. So of course I pulled one of those 3... Cid's Goggles which are alright with +wind damage for Cloud and his OSB. My only other 5 star was Yoshiyuki which was the dupe. To make things worse, of the 3 possible dupes, this was the worst of the three.
